How Do You Get Shiny Dialga in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond? Answered

The only thing better than a legendary is a shiny legendary!

Dialga is a massively popular Pokémon at the top of everyone’s to-catch lists; this legendary Pokémon is just too good not to have on your team! This legendary Pokémon is one of the only Steel/Dragon types in the game, and this combination of typing proves to be an extremely deadly combo. If that wasn’t enough, this Pokémon was born to be a tank. Dialga is hefty, he can take hits just as hard as he deals them out; you will have zero trouble with this legendary Pokémon on your side!

The only way this amazing Pokémon could be better, like how most Pokémon could be better, is if it were shiny. Shiny Dialga in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond is a breathtaking sight; instead of blue, shiny Dialga is a beautiful, brilliant jade color. If you’d like to have a shiny Dialga on your team in Brilliant Diamond, try using one of the methods below!

How To Get Shiny Dialga in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond

It’s difficult to catch any shiny Pokémon, let alone shiny legendaries. Although it’s possible to catch shiny legendary Pokémon, it isn’t easy in the slightest. The odds definitely aren’t in your favor for catching a shiny Dialga, but there are, thankfully, a few different ways you can go about it. There are three main methods for obtaining a shiny Dialga in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond:

Trading

You’d think this method would be the easiest, and you’d be right, kind of. Trading is usually the easiest method for obtaining numerous legendary Pokémon, especially if those Pokémon aren’t available in your version of the game. If you love trading in Pokémon, this method may be right for you!

This could take some time, however, due to most people not carrying a convenient shiny Dialga around in their pocket. Additionally, most players who do have a shiny Dialga, are likely not going to part with it easily. Once you finally find a player trading a shiny Dialga, it will take a lot to convince them to trade it to you. Although this method is great for experienced traders, you might not want to get your hopes up if you thought this method would be quick and easy.

Soft Resetting Pre-Elite 4

Trading is nice, but many players would rather catch their shiny Dialga themselves, which is fair. Traded Pokémon can be a hassle to work with and you can’t even customize their names; organically caught Pokémon are always just better. Excluding trading, the earliest you’d be able to obtain a shiny Dialga would be at Mt. Coronet, at the end of the Team Galactic storyline. Whether or not you catch Dialga is up to you, but you do have to battle him anyways, so it makes sense to just catch him then and there.

All you need to do to use this method is save your game prior to your battle with Dialga. After saving, begin the battle with Dialga to see if it’s shiny or not. If it’s not, turn your device off and turn it back on again. This will bring you back to your last save point, and allow you to effectively do this over and over until you get your shiny. There’s only a 1/4,096 chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon, however, so this method could take quite a while.

Soft Resetting Post-Elite 4 (with a Shiny Charm)

This method may not be the quickest, but it does offer the best odds if you want to catch your shiny Dialga yourself. To use this method, you’ll need to have beaten Dialga at the top of Mt. Coronet without catching him. Once he’s been beaten, Dialga will leave and he can be found later in the game at the Spear Pillar. Dialga will only respawn after the Elite 4 and the Champion have been defeated, however, so you’ll need to do some serious battling before you run into this legendary Pokémon again.

Once you defeat the Elite 4 and the Champion, you’ll need to get your hands on a Shiny Charm. Shiny Charms are key items that double your chances of encountering shiny Pokémon! After you obtain your Shiny Charm, head back up to the Spear Pillar where Dialga will be waiting. Save your game, and then approach Dialga with the intent to battle it. Once the battle begins, you’ll be able to tell whether or not it’s shiny. If it’s not shiny, turn your device off and back on again. Keep soft resetting and battling with Dialga until you inevitably run into his shiny form. This method is twice as effective as trying to catch shiny Dialga with regular shiny odds; if you want a shiny Dialga in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, you should definitely use this method!
