Fire Emblem Engage comes with three difficulty levels that have become a staple of its series entries – Normal, Hard and Maddening modes. Maddening is the option “for those who seek a true challenge” that includes featuring more enemies in each chapter battle, less opportunities to save the game by making it unavailable mid battle and has reduced amounts of Rewinding available with only ten coming from the Time Crystal.

It goes without saying considering all of this that planning ahead on your run is the way to go. So, here’s a breakdown on one of its most notoriously difficult areas in understanding its mechanics to help get you out of it alive.

Maddening Fixed Growths Explained in Fire Emblem Engage

In both Normal and Hard modes, levelling up any unit across the chapters and battles will see their stats increase from the available pool of nine for each character. These stat increases are completely dependant on the unit’s Growth rate however. Therefor, there is a percentage chance assigned to these stats, making each level up inconsistent and rather randomized due to its RNG build. Class Growth rates also affect units that further influence the percentage chance for each stat and unit.

This is what is known as the traditional Random mode for Fire Emblem. Once clearing Fire Emblem Engage once, players will be able to select two additional options with their New Game+ – Random or Fixed stat boosts. The latter is what Maddening mode runs on.

This mode has a few more hidden numbers and calculations going on than the Random mode. These can be viewed as “hidden points” that takes into account far more variables than Random mode does, such as equipped weapon and item alternation to name just a couple. Additionally, each character now has pre-determined levels, meaning that there is a set amount of Growth points in specific stats. This results in the majority of its characters hitting their average stats sooner than later.

All this simply means that a lot more needs to be taken into consideration when attempting to build up units, such as how defeating certain enemies and equipping them up with specific items or weapons affect particular stat points.

If you happen to take up the challenge and feel unsatisfied with the results of which stats are increased for certain units after a level-up, the only viable option is to reroll the stats by restarting the battle. It will be a long and hard amount of battles, but the experience will certainly put you to the test in the best way Fire Emblem Engage can ever offer you!
