FIFA 22 Leaks: everything we know so far

Most people expect to wait until the epic EA Play Live event in July for EA Sports to reveal the changes made to FIFA 22. However, it seems as though certain leaks have already surfaced surrounding major changes to the game, including altered gameplay, FUT Champs Weekend League, custom tactics, and more. Here’s a list of everything we know so far to help you navigate through the recent FIFA 22 leaks.

FIFA 22 LEAKS: EVERYTHING WE KNOW SO FAR

Outside of the stylish new game menu and updated rosters, FIFA 22 is guaranteed to have many exciting new features and additions to the game.

Below we have outlined some of what’s been leaked from various social media accounts on these new developments.

Gameplay

On June 23rd, a Twitch streamer named King Langpard posted a ton of new leaked content on Twitter, in which he noted exciting changes to custom tactics and gameplay features.

He noted specifically how player switching had been adjusted, directional nutmegs have been nixed, and crossing/heading could be overpowered in FIFA 22. He later revealed in a tweet that “Player Switching: When defending, pressing R3 lets you choose between 3 of the closest players, and they all have an arrow set for the direction you flick R3 towards. Can still also use R1 or flick the stick as normal”.

Langpard continued to explain, “2nd man press: It is nerfed a bit, there’s a little green arrow above the player that is 2nd man pressing, and it depletes quickly (3-4 seconds max), soon as it depletes the player’s press isn’t as intense and basically non-existent, also pulls your player out of position.”

Custom Tactics

However, the popular Twitch streamer wasn’t the only one to note some of these big changes, as @FUTZONECENTRAL later tweeted how FIFA 22 players will (finally) be given the ability to customize their offensive tactics.

In the tweet, he explains how you can customize your offensive tactics in 3 different varieties: Build Up Play (balanced, slow build-up, fast build-up, long ball), Chance Creation (balanced, possession, forward runs, direct passing), or no change on defensive tactics.

FUT Champs Format

Another leak comes after the streamer’s major announcement in April of a new format change for FIFA 22 Weekend League. In this new format, KingLangpard states how there will be less than 30 games to play, and you will need to qualify every week to advance.

Each week you will need to play five games, 3 of which you will need to win to qualify. While this format is similar to previous versions, the change comes with the reduced number of games (30) players need to compete.

Heatmaps, Expected Goals, and Pre-Game Attire

More tweets have since surfaced, including new and updated heat maps, giving players an in-depth analysis of each player’s stats on the pitch. Expected Goals is also now being included as an official stat.

Stat kings have been itching for EA to incorporate XG into the popular footy game, so we see both of these additions as major improvements moving forward.

Also, it seems as though FIFA has discarded the old jersey and shorts combo players wear before matches and will instead rock their club or country’s team tracksuit. A fresh and exciting change for FIFA that will help to add another level of realism to the pre-match experience.
