Far Cry has a bit of an on-again off-again relationship with multiplayer. Some of the games in the series do have multiplayer functionality, usually co-operative, while others have focused more on being tighter single-player experiences. These days, though, pretty much all triple-A games are required to have some kind of multiplayer component, so Far Cry 6’s development is kind of a forgone conclusion. So, will Far Cry 6 have multiplayer?
It kind of depends on what you mean by “multiplayer.” If you’re looking for PvP deathmatches in a similar vein to Call of Duty or Quake, you’re not gonna find that here. With the sheer breadth of content present in Far Cry 6 (or any Far Cry game, really), it’d be kind of a waste to attempt to constrain it to small arena-based shooting.
Maybe they could make a Battle Royale thing happen, and I have every confidence someone thought of that, but at the moment, no such element has been announced, though some early players have already discovered an easter egg that is believed to be a tease of a Battle Royale mode to come.
Will Far Cry 6 have Multiplayer?
But while there’s no PvP, there is an established co-op component to Far Cry 6. Two players can team up online and take on the game’s campaign as a team. However, this co-op is online-only; there is no split-screen couch co-op option available. It is also not known at this time if the game will feature crossplay functionality between its seven different platforms, so if you’re planning on playing through the campaign cooperatively with a friend, you should probably try to both get it on the same platform, just to be safe.
