DRS is short-form for “Drag Reduction System,” and by activating it, you’ll gain the ability to lower the flap at the rear end of your car, increasing the straight-line speed of your F1 vehicle. Learning how to activate DRS is a surefire way to dominate on the race track, but figuring out how to do so can be a little tricky. This is why we’ve come up with the following guide on how to active DRS in F1 2021.
How to Activate DRS in F1 2021
Even though the ability to activate the DRS can bring about tremendous benefits, it also comes with some notable downsides. First, you can only use the DRS in some regions of the track (labeled “DRS Zones”), and the racer can only activate it when they’re within 1 second of the car in front of them.
To activate DRS in F1 2021, you will have the option to either do it manually or automatically.
Manual DRS Activation
To activate the DRS manually, make sure that the DRS assist (found in the “Assists” tab) is set to “Off.” Once you’re on the track, you can turn the DRS on by pressing on the pre-set controls of Triangle/Y.
Automatic DRS Activation
To have the game activate the DRS feature automatically, go to “Settings,” move over to the “Assists” tab, then go to the “DRS Assist” and turn it “On.”
Also, be aware that you can always change the control for this setting at any time by going to the “Controls, Vibration, and Force Feedback” option. If you’re ever unsure whether or not you’ve activated the DRS feature, you can always take a peek at the bottom part of your screen. The DRS button should pop up when it’s time to activate it. Or, turn the volume up, and you should hear a little beep when the DRS gets activated (indicating that you are now in the ‘DRS Zone’).
