Every Map Ranked in Call of Duty Warzone (December 2024)

Not all maps have done as good a job at keeping players coming back as one in particular.

The Battle Royale sensation that is Call of Duty: Warzone has seen a lot of changes since its original inception in early 2020. The game’s original map of Verdansk specifically saw various changes through its lifespan. Its contemporary, Caldera Island also saw a major facelift with Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune, giving players a new reason to return. Though all of the Warzone maps have been good in their own right, some are just clearly better received by players, and it shows. Let’s take a look at every map in Warzone and rank them from worst to best.

7. Caldera Island

It goes without saying that Caldera just didn’t live up to the hype it showed with its original reveal trailers. Its first incarnation was a barren wasteland with only a handful of POIs even worth checking out. This map singlehandedly caused a few players to drop the game entirely for a while until it was eventually updated to its 2.0 version. It’s just not formulated to fit Warzone as best as it could’ve been, making it not all that fun to play.

6. Rebirth Island

A map that did a great job at introducing Warzone players to untraditional BR modes, the original incarnation of Rebirth Island was a good break from the original, larger map, Verdansk. Though I personally wasn’t a fan of its layout, this map is appreciated for all that it did do right. It gave us Resurgence and that alone is something going in its favor.

5. Caldera Island 2.0

The term “close but no cigar” perfectly encapsulates the feeling I get when I think of the newer Caldera Island map. Though the map saw some much-needed improvements such as 50% less foliage, updated POIs, and a brand new POI in the form of Verdansk’s Storage Town making a return, There was a real effort to make players hopeful in retrying the map. Though the map is indeed better overall, it still fails to capture the magic and feel that Verdansk gave players.

4. Rebirth Island 2.0

A map that, on the surface, really doesn’t have much to offer other than tight BR gameplay it’s surprising just how effective that formula really is. This map really isn’t much at face value but once you start playing, it’s a highly addictive exploit with a handful of fantastic POIs to take headquarters in. This map was a go-to for a long while to players waiting for a new mainline BR map.

3. Verdansk ’84

Though I truly love the additions to Verdansk ’84 such as the Summit from the Black Ops games and of course, Nakatomi Plaza, ripped straight out of the Die Hard film, this map felt like it was missing something when compared to the original. That’s not to say that this map was bad by any means. On the contrary, this map was really really good and actually made the map feel like a new strategy was needed in certain areas, further innovating the overall formula. Sequels are always going to be compared to the original more harshly due to nostalgia. But I can guarantee that a large chunk of CoD players would choose this version of Verdansk over either Caldera map, any day.

2. Fortune’s Keep

I cannot speak more highly about Fortune’s Keep. It truly feels like the developers have finally given players a map that they can all, yet again, enjoy dropping into over and over. With the tight, close-up gameplay similar to Rebirth with fantastic POIs like with Verdansk, this feels like the best place to be as fans wait for the next mainline BR map. It’s just chaotic fun through and through and rewards players for being experimental in their gameplay tactics.

1. Verdansk

It just hasn’t gotten better than this. The original Warzone map, for one reason or another, has lived on in the hearts of most fans. Whether it’d be nostalgia, its perfected POIs, layout, or just its look/feel, there’s no denying that any subsequent map is going to be compared to this with the most critical of intention. For me, it’s the verticality that really hasn’t returned in Warzone’s maps that makes this one stand so tall. I’m a sucker for a good sniper rifle and this map just made that type of gameplay feel rewarded as much as the others.

But that’s our ranking of every Warzone map. Each map does a great job at trying to change what’s been done before, but some fail to execute what players want at the end of the day. Luckily, the developers behind Warzone are always interested in shaking things up, often.
