In Elden Ring, one of the first major bosses you’ll likely encounter is the ruler of Stormveil Castle and holder of one of the Great Runes, Godrick the Grafted. Godrick earned his epithet by grafting numerous extra limbs onto his body, especially arms, in a twisted show of physical might. He’s a rough, tough customer, but by no means immortal, and when you defeat him you’ll receive not only his Great Rune, but a little something extra: the Remembrance of the Grafted. So, what is the Remembrance of the Grafted in Elden Ring?
What is the Remembrance of the Grafted in Elden Ring
The Remembrance of the Grafted is a special consumable item, a sort of tangible proof of Godrick’s defeat at your hands. You have a few options for its use, though one of them is arguably preferable to the others. Your three options for using the Remembrance of the Grafted are:
- Sell it for a lot of Runes
- Consume it for a lot of Runes
- Bring it to the Finger Reader to receive special weapons
The Remembrance of the Grafted is worth a decent amount of Runes, and you can either sell it to any merchant or consume it yourself to earn those Runes. This isn’t really advisable, however. There are always other ways to earn Runes, but there’s only one Remembrance of the Grafted in the entire game (though it is possible to duplicate it exactly once with a lot of effort), so if you trade it for Runes, you can’t get any of its other benefits.
The real draw of the Remembrance of the Grafted becomes apparent if you visit Enia the Finger Reader at Roundtable Hold. Enia has the ability to draw power from the Remembrances and transform them into powerful weapons based on the ones that their namesakes used against you.
Enia can transform the Remembrance of the Grafted into one of two weapons: the Axe of Godrick or the Grafted Dragon.
The Axe of Godrick is Godrick’s signature golden greataxe. It’s a greataxe that scales with STR and DEX, and while it swings slow as you’d expect from a weapon of its size, it hits like a truck, so it’s a good pick for tanky melee characters. It also has a special skill, “I Command Thee, Kneel!,” which allows you to use some FP to smash the ground and conjure large shockwaves.
The Grafted Dragon is a reference to the gigantic dragon head Godrick grafts to himself during your fight with him. It’s a fist weapon that scales with STR, DEX, and Faith, and in addition to physical damage, every swing also deals fire damage. The Grafted Dragon has its own special skill, “Bear Witness!,” where it spews flames over a wide area of effect.
You can only pick one of these weapons, as the other would require a second Remembrance of the Grafted to obtain. It is possible to duplicate any Remembrance item at a Walking Mausoleum, but you can only duplicate it once, and each Mausoleum can only be used once, so don’t make that choice lightly.
