Does Atomic Heart Have Character Creation? Answered

Who Are You?

It could be that in modern gaming, we’ve gotten overly accustomed to having agency. In which story path we take, which characters we invite onto our team, and yes — what our characters look like. In fact, we’ve gotten so used to customization options that it’s easy to forget … we used to get no customization at all! Or, at the very least, the options were incredibly limited compared to what we have today.

In choosing whether or not to pick up Atomic Heart, you might be led to question whether the game has a wealth of character customization options, or if it takes after titles of the past. Thankfully, we can answer this question rather absolutely. Read on to learn if Atomic Heart boasts character creation … or not.

Does Atomic Heart Have Character Creation?

No. In Atomic Heart, players step into the shoes of Sergei Nechaev, who is responsible for preventing the robot uprising in an alternate history 1955. There is no means by which you can change your appearance, including but not limited to your gender, name, clothing, or even facial hair. As stated, it can be easy to forget that just ten to fifteen years ago, this kind of thing was the norm.

But, there are exceptions in Atomic Heart. Well … kind of, anyway. While you can’t change anything about Nechaev externally, you can still help to define who he is internally. By that, we mean you can allocate the ability points you earn however you deem fit. In addition, pre-order bonuses came with a special skin for Nechaev’s Swede and Electro weapons. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s the closest we’ll get to character customization in Atomic Heart, it seems.
