Diablo 4: How to Switch and Hotkey Weapons

Is there a more convenient way?

Diablo 4 will soon be in its open beta, and players are already finding things they want changed or added to the game. One such problems that players are falling into is weapon switching and hotkeys. You may find it frustrating and inconvenient to have to go into your inventory every time you want to switch your weapons. Is there a better way?

Diablo 4 does not carry on the weapon switching mechanic from Diablo 3, much to the disappointment of players. The reasoning behind this was that the developers deemed it too ‘exploity’, and most players didn’t even realise what was happening with the switch mechanic. With a smaller audience, the devs decided to change it up. In Diablo 4, there is a different way.

In Diablo 4, players will have to press ‘w’ to switch their weapons, which is fitting but unconventional. If you find that too jarring, or uncomfortable, then you can change the hotkey to switch weapons in the settings. Press ‘esc’, go to ‘options’, then to ‘configure options’, where you’ll be able to change all of the controls for the game. Whilst you’re there, you can make other arrangements and changes to make your gaming more comfortable.

Find the ‘w’ hotkey and change it to whatever key you want. Just make sure that it currently isn’t in use for another important command! It would be recommended swapping the hotkey with another, less useful mechanic. Just remember where you assigned it. So the switching mechanic isn’t the same, but it is still straightforward and simple, and optimizable if you’re unhappy.
