Is Core Keeper Multiplayer?

Here's what you need to know about Core Keeper multiplayer functionality

Remember that movie about the guy who gets stuck in a canyon because a rock falls on his arm? 127 Hours? Good movie, but also a cautionary tale against exploring the wilderness by yourself. We humans do our best work in groups (usually), which is why we’re not really suited for exploring hostile environments by ourselves, whether it be canyons or caves. If you’re planning on exploring the deep caves of Core Keeper, don’t be like that guy in the canyon; consider bringing some friends along. On that note, is Core Keeper multiplayer?

Is Core Keeper Multiplayer?

In the same vein as Minecraft or Terreria, it is entirely possible to play Core Keeper as a completely single-player experience. However, if you’re finding your treks through the caves to be a bit lonely, then good news for you: Core Keeper has full online co-op functionality. A single instance of Core Keeper can support up to 8 players at once, and you can all join together to explore a single area, or split up and increase your coverage.

As Core Keeper is both a mining game and a survival game, large groups of players can divvy up responsibilities to tackle the caves in the most efficient way possible. One group can maintain the homestead and farming operations to ensure everyone doesn’t starve to death, while another team can explore, defeat monsters, and secure resources to keep your operations growing.

The only caveats to the multiplayer are that, at least at the moment, it’s online-only, no local multiplayer, and the experience may be a bit buggy at times. Core Keeper just launched this week, and it’ll be in early access for a while, so there will likely be some stuff that needs ironing out. Once it’s in full release, though, it should be much smoother, and the devs may have time for additional multiplayer features.

Luckily, the multiplayer functionality is very easy to understand. If you’re hosting a game, you can press the ESC button and copy your game ID from the top left. The game ID is just a string of letters and numbers.
