Can You Switch Houses in Hogwarts Legacy? Explained

How could anyone possibly choose just one?

Hogwarts Legacy is one of the first major games to hit the market in 2023. Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that allows players to step into the shoes of students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As a student at Hogwarts, you’ll be able to explore the entire wizarding world, from the school itself to the Forbidden Forest and beyond! You’ll even be able to completely customize your character, from the shape of your face to the pitch of your voice.

Just like in previous Harry Potter games, your character will be assigned to one of the four main houses in Hogwarts Legacy: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Much of your gameplay experience will be impacted heavily based on which house you belong to, so if you got saddled with a house you were hoping to avoid, you may be wondering if you can pull a Harry Potter and argue for a better house with the Sorting Hat. Keep reading to find out if you can switch houses in Hogwarts Legacy!

Can You Switch Houses in Hogwarts Legacy? Explained

Your in-game experiences will be heavily impacted by which house you belong to in Hogwarts Legacy, so getting sorted into the right house is a must. Unfortunately, you’ll just have to try your hardest to get it right on the first try, because there’s no way to switch your house later on in Hogwarts Legacy. And unlike the chosen one himself, you won’t be able to pick a fight with the Sorting Hat to get into the house you want. However, there are a couple of ways around this obstacle.

This game conventionally provides four different save files, which means you can dedicate one save file to each of the four houses. There are certain achievements and quests that are exclusive to each house, so by completing the game four separate times with a different house each time, you’ll be able to explore every nook and cranny of everything this game has to offer!

You can also always rig the Sorting Hat quiz to get the house you want on the first try. If you want to play through the game with a certain house, you can always just lie and pick all the answers that align with your intended houses’ core values (chances are, most of you will do this anyway). If you want to be sorted into Gryffindor, for example, try to choose answers that align with Gryffindor’s values, which are: courage, chivalry, and determination. Be sure to pick your answers carefully, because you won’t be able to switch houses later on!
