Can You Progress Story Mode While Playing Multiplayer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

How far can you go with friends

The multiplayer option in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a much-welcomed feature. Finally, we have possibly the easiest way to play and trade with our friends than any previous game. The multiplayer allows you to do many activities, however, one of the bigger questions is how much it allows. Can you progress story mode while playing multiplayer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? Here’s what we know and what we are hoping for.

What Can You Do in Multiplayer?

The multiplayer feature seems to mostly be a cool hangout concept for you and your friends. You can camp, trade, battle, explore and raid with up to 4 people total at a time. No matter which game you have, all 4 of you can hang out together. The hard part is figuring out how much of your time together will add to your storyline progress. If you battle a gym leader at someone else’s host game, does it carry over? Are you helping your friend progress but not yourself?

Can You Progress Story Mode While Playing Multiplayer?

There are good, but difficult questions to answer. However many context clues to how the feature is being presented say no. It does not look like you can progress story mode anywhere other than in your own game. However, there is a chance you could battle gyms and other NPC trainers in your friend’s game while you’re hanging out just for the fun of it.

The game has just come out and so there’s still time for players to experiment and explore just how far they can take the multiplayer function. At the very least this is the best way we’ve had trading offered in a long time in Pokemon and hopefully if the demand is high enough perhaps Gamefreak could add a DLC where you can do storyline options with each other in multiplayer.
