Can you Play Online Multiplayer in The Quarry?

But can I play it with friends?

Multiplayer is an ever-present function to how we play games today. Not every game has multiplayer, but the addition of it can make or break a game’s appeal to some gamers. For The Quarry, developed by Supermassive Games, the question is not so simple as just a yes or no. Creative director Will Byles recently talked about the issue.

Does The Quarry Has Multiplayer?

So does the Quarry have multiplayer? The short answer is: yes. The longer answer is that the multiplayer feature was delayed because the team working on it was located in Ukraine. Yes, you read that right, the Russian invasion is impacting video games as well. Will Byles told IGN, “We had a bit of a weird thing with the multiplayer because… part of our team is based out in the Ukraine, so we had to delay the multiplayer because they had to move.”

Luckily everyone is now evacuated and the multiplayer feature will be out in a timely manner. Supermassive games actually addressed this in a tweet. Online multiplayer will be available starting July 8th.

The online multiplayer mode allows up to eight people to play together. One person serves as a host and seven others are mainly spectators who vote on critical decisions. A third game mode, titled Movie Mode, will let people watch the events play out in the game as if it were just a real movie, using readily prior selected outcomes. Given there are almost 200 possible endings to the game, you can watch several different versions of the game/film over and over. This is a very creative and unique experience for a game to offer.

The Quarry is now out for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
