My dad always says that playing the stock market is like gambling for smart people. It’s not so much a matter of raw luck as it is reading the numbers and making educated guesses. It’s also a matter of ensuring the system stays fair; there’s a reason insider trading is a crime, y’know. With that ominous lead-up, let’s answer today’s question: can you plant your own turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Every Sunday (past a certain point of progression), little Daisy Mae comes to your island to sell turnips on behalf of her grandma, Joan. These turnips can be resold to the boys at Nook’s Cranny, but their value fluctuates wildly from day to day. One day they could be worth a fortune, the next, they’re worth less than the dirt they came out of. Theoretically, if you could grow your own turnips, you wouldn’t have to buy any from Daisy Mae, right?
Can You Plant Turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Well, unfortunately, that’s not an option. There’s no way to grow your own turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. If everyone could just grow their own turnips and sell when the value’s high, the whole stalk market would collapse! Plus, you’d probably get Daisy Mae kicking down your door to break your legs. It’s her game, buddy, you’re just a player in it.
That being said, while you can’t plant and grow or your own turnips, you can bury the ones you buy from Daisy Mae in the ground. If you’re not a fan of leaving bundles of turnips all over the floor of your house, burying them in holes on the island is a good way to store them long-term. Remember, though, buried or not, turnips automatically spoil after a week has passed, leaving them worth next to nothing. Make sure to check the turnip prices at Nook’s Cranny every day, and if the price is right, dig ‘em up and sell ‘em off.
