Can You Pet the Dog in Tchia?

Pet all the things! ALL OF THEM!

It’s no secret that people like being able to pet animals, real or otherwise, which is why many games released in the last few years have added a feature to let you pet any cuddly critters you come across. Well, apparently Tchia took that as a challenge, because this game has taken that feature and cranked it up to a logical extreme. So, can you pet the dog in Tchia?

Can You Pet the Dog in Tchia?

My friend, not only can you pet the dog in Tchia, you can pet everything. Around most of the villages and cities across the archipelago, there are, of course, wild and domesticated dogs that you can have a quality petting session with. However, it doesn’t stop there. Any creature you encounter throughout the game that isn’t a human or hostile enemy, you can pet.

You can pet dogs, cats, birds, deer, fish, crabs, sea turtles, and probably a bunch of other animals I’m forgetting. Not only that, you can even pet animals that, in real life, would be dangerous to approach, such as wild boars or spiders. No animals will show you any hostility in this game, though some may run away from you if you approach too quickly.

If you want to pet an animal, just stand right next to it and press the B button. Even if it was skittish before, the animal will immediately calm down and acquiesce to Tchia’s pets, all while making adorable noises of contentment. You can sit there and pet the critter for as long as you darn well please; Tchia will only stop petting them once you press the button again.

There’s no reward for specifically petting every animal in the game (aside from, y’know, getting to pet every animal in the game), but if you interact with an animal at least once, it’ll unlock a little profile for it in your journal. Cataloging wildlife and getting to pet them; not even most licensed zoologists get to do that, so consider yourself lucky.
