In the Wizarding World, most forms of magic are freely available to all practitioners of it, within reason. However, there are three spells that, should anyone use them on another human being, would immediately land them in the wizard prison of Azkaban for life. They’re that bad. Obviously, though, if someone tells you not to do something, you want to do it more. So, can you learn the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy?
Can You Learn the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy? Answered
Surprisingly, the answer is yes! You can learn all three of the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy, and since the game doesn’t use any kind of morality or law system, you can basically use them whenever you want! Guess they weren’t so unforgivable after all.

As a reminder, here’s a general idea of what each of the Unforgivable Curses does:
- Avada Kedavra: Instant death. Point your wand at someone, say the words, boom. Dead.
- Crucio: Intense pain. Anyone inflicted with Crucio will suffer intense physical pain until the caster stops it. Great for torture!
- Imperio: Enslavement. Anyone inflicted with Imperio enters a zombie-like state where they will be completely obedient to the caster’s whims.
Learning the Curses
Obviously, due to the aforementioned threat of life imprisonment, none of the teachers of Hogwarts would ever teach you these spells, at least not with the intent of having you use them. Rather, the Unforgivable Curses are unlocked by completing special sidequests, most of which aren’t available until the last leg of the game’s story. More than likely, you’ll have already completed the main campaign before unlocking them, so don’t get your hopes up about blazing through the story by insta-killing everyone.
Once you do unlock the curses, though, you can use them all you want, barring situations where the game outright stops you. You can use them extensively in the Dark Arts Battle Arena if you have the deluxe version of the game, in case you want a place to really cut loose.
