Can you Disable Quest Markers in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

Player frustrated after walking across the map to meet their party, only to find out they went to the wrong marker

If you’re unaware based on peoples reactions online, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive game. Websites such as HowLongToBeat clock the completion of the main story somewhere around 30 hours. However players who are more than a few hours in will tell you that 30 hours is how long they’ve spent in act 1 alone. This is mostly due to the fact that the game is jam packed to the brim with quests galore. Some quests intermingle with the main storyline, while others are standalone stories inside the world. All these quests come with their very own marker on the mini-map. There may come a time where you want to simplify your quests, and only see a certain one, or just fewer overall. Leaving many to wonder: can you disable quest markers in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

At any time during the game, players can press ‘J’ on their keyboard in order to view their current/completed quests. BG3 are comprised of a few different types of quests. You have main quests, regional quests, and companion quests. Not every quest will create a marker on the map mind you. The quest location might be outside your purview, requiring you to investigate things further. Or if it’s a companion quest, progression through the main story might be necessary to further their storyline.

If the quest does happen to have a marker, you can immediately view that quest on the map by selecting ‘Show Marker’ in the journal. Sadly, it seems as of now players cannot disable quest markers in BG3. Players who picked up every quest they could, only to realize they want to progress the main story, will have to endure the sight of a cluttered mini-map. Throughout the early access version of the game, modders were able to create a feature that lets you disable certain markers depending on what you want to see. Something that many in the community would like to see implemented in the base version of the game sooner rather than later. Either that, or have that early access mod updated for the full release version.
