Can You Date Sym in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist?

For all those SYMPS out there

There is a massive cast of dateable characters in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, but none are nearly as intriguing as Sym. Sym is a “Gardener” on Vertumna, the planet your colony now calls home.

Sym is part of an ancient alien race called Gardeners, and although the rest of the Gardeners want nothing to do with the humans, Sym is intrigued by these otherworldly visitors and can’t help himself from getting closer! Just how close is he willing to get to these brave new explorers though? Keep reading if you want to know if you can date Sym in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist!

Can You Date Sym in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist?

The short answer is yes, you can absolutely date Sym in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist. Who would want to date a smelly human when you can date a sexy immortal alien instead?? Sym is one of the least problematic characters in the game; he only wants to help the humans and the Gardeners live in peace!

Not only is he a hot piece of alien ass, but he is also the key to getting the Peace on Vertumna ending in the game, where your colony is able to live harmoniously with nature and the Gardeners (the best ending in the game!).

Be warned: once you’re dating Sym, there will be a few saucy scenes with him thrown in here and there (like with all the other dateable characters), but nothing too graphic. You can also go on adorable “human dates” with him, which are as cute as they are hilarious!

You don’t have to date Sym to get the Peace on Vertumna ending, but honestly, why wouldn’t you? He’s purple, he’s endlessly patient and caring, and he likes cake! What else could you ever want in a man?

(some of the scenes you encounter while dating him do get a little bit saucy, but any truly inappropriate stuff is only mentioned, not explicitly shown) (I know that probably comes as a disappointment to some people, I know, I’m sorry, I was disappointed too)

How to Date Sym in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

Surprisingly, Sym is one of the easiest characters to date in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist (I know, you really wouldn’t think an alien would be easier to win over than a human, but you’d be wrong). Like with many of the dateable characters in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, you must first max out his friendship level before you can date him. With Sym, this is surprisingly easy.

All you need to do is be kind to Sym when speaking with him, and make sure to get him the memdrive he asks for from Hal in Engineering.

You can also give him gifts to raise his friendship level even higher, like with most dateable characters in this game. Sym, however, is even better than the other dateable characters in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, because he doesn’t dislike any gifts you give him!

He loves any and all human trinkets you give him, though he likes Cakes and Yellow Flowers the best. Sym can be found standing in certain spots in the Plains, the Valley of Vertigo, and the Wresting Ridges; to give him gifts, simply go up to him, interact with him, and tell him you’ve brought a gift for him.

Once you’re old enough and have interacted with Sym a few times, you will begin to get the “Flirty” dialogue options (the choices with the “lips” symbol next to them). Surprisingly, Sym is incredibly receptive to flirting, and will even flirt with you back!

You’ll be able to flirt with him pretty early in the game, but you won’t be able to date him (or any other characters, for that matter) until you’re at least 16 years of age.

After you’re old enough and have been flirting with him for a while, go talk to him at the Wresting Ridges, where you’ll be given the option to kiss him during a harrowing scene. This will set you on the right track to dating Sym, as long as you keep choosing the “flirty” dialogue options and are continuously kind to him.

(Spoiler alert: shortly after you kiss him at the Wresting Ridges, he will “die” in a horrible accident. He will appear to be dead for a while but he’s really not, and shortly after he “comes back”, you can begin dating him)
