What are Collectibles in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist?

Collectibles are various items strewn around Vertumna’s map that can help you along your journey in numerous ways! It’s technically possible to complete the game without collectibles, but you really wouldn’t want to; collectibles make the game easier and can even help you get better endings! Collectibles can be found in abundance outside the walls of the colony, but there are some that like to spawn inside the colony’s walls. You can find Bobber Fruits, Medicinal Roots, Xeno Eggs, Mushwood Logs, and more, all from the comfort of your colony!

You won’t be able to collect every type of collectible from inside your colony, however. Some collectibles can only be found in certain areas of the map, like Strange Devices. Strange Devices can only be found in the Wresting Ridges while you’re on expeditions. Although some can only be found in certain locations, all collectibles in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist can be found naturally on the ground simply by looking for them, except for Cakes. Cakes are the only collectibles that won’t spawn naturally in the game; Cakes can only be obtained by purchasing them at the Supply Depot, or by accepting them from other characters as gifts.

What are Collectibles Used for?

Collectibles in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist have numerous uses, not the least of which is helping with card games. There are many tough card games in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, and sometimes you can’t win no matter how good your cards are. With collectibles, however, you can win just about any card game that’s thrown your way! You can use collectibles such as Crystal Clusters and Medicinal Roots to draw better cards, or you can apply collectibles such as Yellow Flowers or Mushwood Logs directly to your cards to upgrade them. Mushwood Logs are especially useful, they add 2 levels to any card they’re applied to, and can be used multiple times on a single card!

Collectibles such as Strange Devices can be used to further the game’s story, and collectibles such as Cakes are especially helpful with gaining friendship points with the NPCs. Everybody in your colony has a birthday, and everyone loves Cake on their birthday (except for Dys, who doesn’t like Cake)! Most characters will accept Cake at any time (except for Rex, who will only accept Cake on his birthday), but you get double friendship points if you give them Cake (or any item they really like) on their birthdays. Additionally, everyone in your colony has certain items (collectibles) they especially like; if you give a character an item they really like, you will get 2 friendship points for that character. However, if you give a character an item they dislike, you will lose 2 friendship points for that character (the horror!).
