A system used to mark and monitor a trainers progress in collecting every Pokémon in the land of Paldea. Nintendo’s cloud service for bringing over Pokémon from previous games to the next, Pokémon Home, isn’t going to be compatible with Scarlet and Violet until sometime in 2023. This means that even if players have caught all 800+ Pokémon before, they will not be able to transfer them to the new game just yet. Unfortunately, the answer to our question might leave trainers feeling a bit drowsy. There is currently no way to complete the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet pokédex without trading. Even if a player decides to buy both Scarlet and Violet, they would need to trade Scarlet’s exclusive Pokémon to their character in Violet or vise versa.

This has been a bit of an infuriating issue for some, and a silver lining for others. Some players enjoy the idea of having to reach out to random Pokémon trainers or friends, and work together to help fill out each others pokédex. Primarily thanks to the new multiplayer features in the 9th generation of Pokemon, meeting up with new people is easier than ever. Others however, are still frustrated by the fact that they cannot fully complete the pokédex without trading with other people. The introduction of Pokemon Home into Scarlet and Violet in 2023 will surely help those who may not want to get Nintendo Online in order to trade with other players. Sadly, fans will have to wait another generation and hope that Game Freak adds another way to complete the pokédex.
