Call of Duty: Warzone Unable to Connect to Online Services

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Call of Duty Warzone released back in March of 2020 and instantly gained a massive following. Since then, the game quickly became one of the most popular titles in the series, accumulating over 60 million players in a few months. During its launch, over 600,000 people were watching it on Twitch. Infinity Ward’s new Battle Royale game brought some interesting new mechanics to a genre that was slowly becoming stale.

Warzone is an online game, meaning players require an internet connection to play, and Activision’s servers need to remain stable. Like any game, there are some technical issues that some players face. One issue, in particular, makes Call of Duty Warzone players unable to connect to online services. Let’s take a look at what this error means and how to fix it.

Call of Duty: Warzone Unable to Connect to Online Services

Many players on PC and console will occasionally see this error that prevents them from connecting to the game servers. The Activision and Infinity Ward teams sometimes perform maintenance on their servers, causing them to go down temporarily. When this happens, there is usually a scheduled maintenance announcement on their social media accounts. To diagnose if the problem is with the Call of Duty Warzone servers, you can check the server status.

Another reason for the COD Warzone unable to connect to online services error could be a poor internet connection. At launch, specific VPNs and internet service providers were experiencing poor routing to the Call of Duty Warzone servers. While these types of issues have been optimized and resolved over time, they still exist.

Poor connections from ISPs can prevent players from connecting and ultimately playing the game. Similarly, players facing internet connection issues in their homes, or wherever they are playing from, may see this error if their connection is running slowly. A major cause of these errors is due to slow Wi-Fi connections.

How to fix the problem

To fix this issue on your end, you can try a few different things depending on the root cause. The first thing to try is restarting the game and trying to reconnect to the servers. These issues are likely server-side if you can connect to other websites and games with no problems.

Check Warzone’s server status

The first thing to do to check Warzone’s server status is to visit Activision’s Online Services page. It is designed to update in real-time and notify users of any known outages. You can toggle between any Activision title and see in real-time if there are any ongoing issues.

The second way to check Warzone’s server status is by using third-party websites like DownDetector. These websites are entirely user-driven. If you see a spike in outages reported, there is likely an issue in general, or in your specific area. Refer to the outages map to determine if it’s a region-specific problem.

Updating Warzone

Make sure your game is entirely up-to-date. If you play on PC and use the Battle.net client, you can double-check this by clicking on Call of Duty: MW, clicking options, and selecting check for updates. Console users can restart their console or select the title from the menu to force check for updates.

Troubleshooting your internet

Being unable to connect to other games in addition to Warzone indicates a problem with your internet. First, if you are on a wireless connection, try to use a hardwire. When you are set up and wired into your modem or router, launch Warzone and attempt to reconnect.

Next, you can try simply restarting your modem and router. Unplug the equipment, and wait one minute before plugging it back in. Reconnect everything, and try connecting to Warzone again when your internet is restored. If the issue persists, you can attempt port forwarding.

We recommend consulting your ISP’s port forwarding documentation to do this properly. According to Activision, Call of Duty Warzone utilizes the following TCP and UDP ports:

PlatformTCP PortsUDP Ports
PC3074, 27014-270503074, 3478, 4379-4380, 27000-27031, 27036
PlayStation1935, 3478-34803074, 3478-3479
Xbox307488, 500, 3074, 3075, 3544, 4500

Finally, if all else fails and you are undoubtedly having internet problems and unable to connect to other games, you can contact your ISP. They may send out a network engineer or technician to look into the problem and resolve the issues.

Contact Activision Support

You can also look at the official Activision Support Twitter account and check for recent Tweets regarding issues or maintenance. With as many players as this game has, they will experience technical problems sometimes. When there are ongoing issues or maintenance, all you can do is be patient and wait for them to be resolved.

If issues persist, contact the Activision support team directly by submitting a ticket. The technical team may be able to daignose your problem and provide a more tailored solution.
