The Shadow Wizard Money Alliance have invited you into their inner sanctum

Spellcasting in a Dungeons & Dragons game is synonymous with rolling dice for initiation. You simply aren’t playing D&D if you can’t cast some spells. And in Baldur’s Gate 3, players get a wide selection of arcane magic wielders to choose from. For the sake of this article however, we’ll be focusing on the less innate spell users in the game. We’re of course talking about Wizards, who use Intelligence, wits, and sheer know-how to best their opponents. Starting out in a class like this can be trickier than most, as the more options you have to choose from in terms of actions, the more thought you need to put into it. We’re going to conjure a portal and take a look at the best wizard build for leveling in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).

Wizards have some of the most amount of spell choices to choose from in BG3. And because you don’t just get infinite spell slots, you’ll have to choose your action pool wisely. At the start of the game, you’ll be given the option to choose 3 cantrips and 2 level 1 spells. These of course increase over levels, with players earning higher level spell slots, with better magic to go along with them. Because of how many more types of spells you can learn, this makes wizard a very good mid-end game class if crafted well.

You start building a decent repertoire of spells past wizard level 4-5, so until then every one you have will be all the more important. That’s why, to help with leveling, you’ll want to grab magic missile, grease, and false life to name a few spells. These will help deal damage, hinder enemies advancements, and protect you or your teammates. Cantrips that can be useful to grab sooner rather than later would be fire bolt, ray of frost, and true strike. You can interchange one of the previous ones for mage hand however, as this cantrip will be more of a help outside of combat than in. And finally if you’d like to take more advantage over your dice rolls, consider going with the Divination School subclass, otherwise Evocation School is great for throwing buffs on your allies.
