Finding natural wonders in Civ 6 provide multiple benefits (besides being pretty to look at on the map). When you find one, you get an era point, which helps you advance in the game and avoid a dark age (if you’re playing in the corresponding mode).

You can’t change or develop some natural wonder tiles, but if you end up with them in your civ, they can be pretty valuable beyond simply discovering them. If you’re lucky enough to start near or near-ish to one, it makes sense to plan to incorporate it into your growing empire. Here’s why.

What Do Natural Wonders Do in Civ 6?

Natural wonder tiles give +2 appeal to any adjacent tiles, which means you can build incredibly effective national parks and neighborhoods, not to mention holy site adjacencies.

There are two types of natural wonders: those you can “walk” on, and those you can’t. With the walkable ones, the tiles themselves give bonuses. The non-walkable ones mainly provide adjacency bonuses. Your citizens can also work walkable tiles.

When you modify walkable natural wonder tiles, you can get extra faith, gold, science, or culture in addition to its initially stated yield.

Do All Games of Civ 6 Have Natural Wonders in Them?

As of the August 2020 update, you can choose in your advanced setup options whether you want to have natural wonders, or if you want to only include certain ones. Remember, though, that natural wonders are based on terrain type, so if you exclude too many, you might not see a natural wonder near your starting location.

How Do You Find Natural Wonders?

The best way to find natural wonders is to create a couple scouts early in the game and send them out. Exploring grants you a lot of advantages early game, and, if applicable, helps you avoid a dark age. However, any units can find natural wonders.

What Should You Do If You Find a Natural Wonder?

If you’re going for a domination victory or are otherwise a conquering civ, carefully consider civilizations that have natural wonders within their borders. Those tiles are quite valuable. If you’re not interested in dominating, you can exert cultural pressure on cities near natural wonders to lure them to your civ — or take their loyalty down by using cultists affiliated with the Voidsinger secret society!

Best Natural Wonders in Civ 6

There are 34 natural wonders in Civ 6, spanning across different terrain types. Some of them might not be worth planning around — but some of the natural wonders in Civ 6 offer pretty sweet bonuses. Consider making an effort to get the following in your territory if you find them:

Bermuda Triangle

If you’re a science-focused civ, you can’t ignore this one, which occurs near costs but in the ocean. Units can go through it and it provides +5 science to all adjacent tiles. Plus, if your naval units pass through it, they get +1 movement and experience a teleport to another place in the world! The Bermuda Triangle makes sea exploration easy and fun. It’s a no brainer to get this in your borders if you can considering the science tile generation.

Cliffs of Dover

These beautiful cliffs appear on coastline areas only. They provide bonuses on the tiles themselves in the amount of +3 culture, +3 gold, and +2 food, and in Gathering Storm, you also get a +4 appeal with tile adjacency. This is a must have if you’re near the coast and find it.

Fountain of Youth

This is an amazing wonder, and it’s walkable. Units that enter it get +10 healing (whether they’re in their own territory or not). The tiles themselves provide +4 faith and +4 science, which is a great way to focus on faith without falling behind.

Païtiti

This is a non-walkable wonder that provides +3 gold and +2 culture to all adjacent tiles. If this is in your borders, you also get gold bonuses on your trade routes. For a trade-centric civ, Païtiti is pretty valuable.

Uluru

Uluru is not walkable, but it provides +2 faith and +2 culture adjacency bonuses — in addition to a +4 Appeal!

Zhangye Danxia

Only available in Rise & Fall, This natural wonder gives you +2 Great Merchant points and +2 Great General points as long as at least one of its tiles falls in your territory. It’s an ideal way to help fund an army.
