With this ability, Peter’s empire gets science or culture from all trade routes if those trade routes are to more advanced nations. More advanced, regarding this ability, means you get +1 science of culture per three civics or technologies ahead.

If you’re engaging in trade as Russia, consider sending your trade routes to more advanced civs. That’ll give you more science and culture, and it’s a long-game-style way to play catch-up, especially if you’re worried about dark ages in Rise and Fall.

Some players strategize early game to focus on expansion and military domination, taking this time to be the architects of Russia — then they play a crucial catch up game via trade.

This makes Peter ideal for a cultural or science victory, with a religious victory as a good backup plan.

Combine Peter’s Leader Abilities with Russia’s Abilities

When you found a Russian city, you also get extra territory. Building a well-fortified empire in the early game is a quick way to get an expansive empire. Consider establishing your borders early if you can afford to defend them — then you won’t have to worry about it later in the game, especially if you are going for a cultural or religious victory.

Overall, Peter’s strategies mean taking over lots of land and gaining culture and science from those trade routes. Add Lavras into the mix and it’s easy to accrue culture as long as the empire is expansive.

Russian cities also get additional faith and production from tundra tiles, so be sure to found cities near the tundra when possible.

Civs also get the Cossack unit. These are more powerful in combat than regular mounted units, and they get a move action following combat.

Lastly, don’t forget the Russian Lavra. This building replaces the holy site for Russia and provides a host of bonuses, including additional great prophet, writer, artist, and musician points dependin gon the other things that’s around. When you use a great person in the city, the borders expand, too.

When you first acquire a lot of tundra as Russia, don’t feel the need to develop it all, especially if you don’t have sawmills yet. Bask in the bonuses these tiles provide, and consider taking the policy card that lets you buy tiles at a discount to nab some critical tundra zones. If you’re playing Rise and Fall, be prepared to have to take your cities back by force during a dark age, as this civ expands rapidly as a primary feature of it.
