Best Mounts to Tame in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

The hardest part is knowing which ones to tame.

Smalland: Survive the Wilds is by far one of the best survival games of 2023! This game has it all: endless wilderness, giant hostile insects, and a massive race of tiny playable characters! There isn’t much more that you could ever possibly want in a game, but being that this game is still in its early access phase, you can bet that there’ll be even more cool features to come.

One of the many cool features of this game is the mounts! Mounts are adorable, rideable creatures that can be tamed with craftable treats. There are only a handful of mounts to choose from right now, but they each have their own special abilities that make them worth seeking out. Keep reading to find out which mounts you should tame in Smalland: Survive the Wilds!

Best Mounts to Tame in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

Mounts are tameable insects and small creatures that can be ridden in Smalland. Currently, there are only 4 mounts available to players in the game: Damselfly, Wolf Spider, Grasshopper, and Gecko. Each mount has its advantages and disadvantages, but each will require a special treat to be tamed.

Prior to taming a creature in Smalland, you’ll need to create a special treat for it, first. Once you’ve crafted the creature-specific treat, all you need to do is hunt one down, weaken it, and offer it the food (kind of like catching a Pokémon in the Safari Zone). Taming these creatures really isn’t as difficult as it seems; deciding which one to tame is the hard part.

As previously mentioned, each mount in Smalland has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, these mounts’ advantages greatly outweigh any disadvantages they may have:

Damselfly

The Damselfly is the only mount in Smalland that is able to fly! In fact, taming and riding a damselfly is currently the only method of flight that players have in the game. Players can always simply get winged armor and use it to glide around, of course, but anyone who’s tried that knows that gliding and flying are very different, especially when you’re trying to cover long distances.

The damselfly is one of the best mounts in Smalland for players that love to explore! If you need to get anywhere fast in this game, just tame a damselfly!

Wolf Spider

The wolf spider is one of the best mounts in Smalland due to its unique ability to attack while being ridden. While riding your wolf spider, you can choose to have it attack other enemies for you! Not only that, but you’ll be perfectly safe for the entire duration of the battles, as long as you stay perched on the spider’s back.

If you need to get through an area crowded with enemies, then all you need to do is tame a wolf spider and plow right through! You could always just tame a damselfly and fly right over them too, of course, but sometimes the hard way is the most fun!

All Mounts and Their Special Abilities in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

There may only be 4 mounts in Smalland currently, but what they lack in quantity they make up for in quality. Each of these mounts has its own special ability that can help you navigate the oversized wilderness in Smalland. Here are all of the available mounts in the game and their respective special abilities:

  • Damselfly – Damselflies have the ability to fly long and short distances.
  • Wolf Spider – Wolf spiders have the ability to attack enemies while being ridden by a player.
  • GrasshopperGrasshoppers have the ability to leap very long distances.
  • Gecko – Geckos have the ability to climb up steep inclines and angles.

All Mount Treat Recipes

As previously mentioned, you’ll need to craft treats before you can tame any of the 4 mounts in Smalland. Each mount requires a different treat to be tamed, which means you’ll need to gather 4 different recipes and 4 different sets of ingredients if you want to tame them all. Here are all of the treat recipes for each mount in Smalland:

  • Grasshopper – 3 Insect Eggs, 1 Petal, 2 Seed Oils
  • Damselfly – 3 Firefly Juice, 1 Petal, 2 Seed Oils
  • Gecko – 2 Ant Heads, 2 Bee Heads, 1 Petal, 2 Seed Oils
  • Wolf Spider – 1 Grasshopper Leg, 2 Spider Eye, 3 Insect Wings, 1 Petal, 2 Seed Oils

These treat recipes are all ranked by how difficult the ingredients are to gather, with the wolf spider treat recipe being the most difficult by far (but it’s definitely still worth it!). Thankfully, however, they all have the petals and seed oils in common, so that’ll make gathering ingredients a little easier. Good luck with creating the ultimate mount armada in Smalland: Survive the Wilds!

Mounts are irrefutably some of the coolest features in Smalland, but they’re far from the only cool features in this game!
