With God of War: Ragnarok recently releasing on PlayStation 4 and 5, many players on other gaming platforms are left with a growling stomach for something similar to play. Luckily, there are a lot of games out there that can fill that void, and in some ways, can do certain aspects just as good, if not better than this titan of a game. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Starting out our list is the indie classic, Hellblade: Shenua’s Sacrifice. Similar to the newer God of War titles, this game will have you facing foes in claustrophobic third-person combat as well as having a mythologic-like Viking backdrop and even tosses in some environmental puzzles.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Following in the footsteps of Hellblade, AC: Valhalla’s Norse mythological backdrop is impressive, as well as its gigantic locations and refined combat. For a more action-heavy option, this is the best choice. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is another great choice if Greek mythology is more up your alley.
Dante’s Inferno
Throwing it back a bit, Dante’s Inferno is a real hidden gem amongst those who enjoyed the older, more hack-and-slashy God of War titles. This is the closest you can get to that kind of experience, but the game is great in its own right too with a gripping story.
Darksiders (Entire Series)
Another great OG God of War-styled series of games, any Darksiders title is guaranteed to give you a great, original experience with a more cartoonish view of it all. This is a comic-book version of the hack-and-slash genre for sure.

Elden Ring
You knew this game had to make the list. With its own mythos, a grand world to explore, and some of the most epic boss battles around, Elden Ring truly gives God of War: Ragnarok a run for its money. If you want to sink hours into a title similar to Ragnarok, this is it, and then some.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
If you want a strong story-driven title with amazing gameplay and magnetic characters, then Guardians of the Galaxy is actually a great choice if you can’t get your hands on God of War. The narrative in this game is striking and the set pieces are colorful explosions that keep attention.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
A personal favorite of mine; Fallen Order seems to be the perfect marriage of Elden Ring and Guardians of the Galaxy, having a very strong narrative as well as delivering players some truly challenging battles. If you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise and God of War, you’ll feel right at home with this one.
