Which Feat Should You Pick for Paladin Level 4 in Baldur’s Gate 3?

When thinking about choosing the best level 4 Feat for Paladin you should be aware that there are two choices in front of you. You can either go for a safe option which is Ability Improvement and boost up either your Strength or Charisma (or both) as your main attributes, or go for a more exciting solution and pick a Feat such as Heavy Armor Master and Sentinel.

Feats are an amazing addition to any class as they can offer significant boosts and up your game with their unique advantages. However, some people like to play it safe and increase their chances of landing hits on enemies and grabbing each available bonus for the attacks they can. Picking Ability Improvement and upgrading your Strength and Charisma, depending on whether you’re focusing on your physical attacks or on your spells, will lead you down this safe path of an unwritten BG3 rule that says you should get your primary attribute to 20 as soon as you can.

But, if you’re not the kind of a person who likes to play safe and you want to get a visible, instantaneous, and clear advantage with your level 4 Feat then you should go for Heavy Armor Master or Sentinel in my opinion. With Heavy Armor Master you decrease incoming non-magic attacks by 3 while wearing heavy armor and get a Strength increase of 1. As you can see this Feat still lets you get one attribute bonus point which is an excellent deal. Further, Sentinel puts you in that protector role that Paladins are famous for and allows you to use a weapon attack reaction against an enemy that has attacked your ally. You also have Advantage on Opportunity Attacks and the enemy you hit with this attack can’t move for the rest of his turn.
