Best Classes in Lunacid

Are you brave enough to attempt the Forsaken role?

A diseased civilization grew like a wild fire, a parasite spreading deep within the Great Well. As the Earth got a serious case of poisoning, with the damage ticking away for an eternity, the world as we knew it would never be the same again. Those deemed to be sick and undesirable were thrown into the Well as an attempt to rid the world of its evil. From petty thieves to blood-thirsty killers, the Well grew in population, being home to all of the criminals. In its bottomless pit lies the sleeping old one, its identity unknown but its powers great. Your task is to continue the journey forward for the spherical walls coning you in were unclimbable from below. In this Dungeon Crawling game, paying homage to FromSoftware’s King’s Field, this is Vincent’s guide on the best Classes to use in Lunacid.

Lunacid is one of those undiscovered gems on Steam. With a pricing of $6.99 for its Early Access state, Lunacid brings back that iconic retro feel with its Dungeon Crawler. With inspirations to FromSoftware’s earliest works of Shadow Tower and King’s Field, Lunacid attempts to fill that nostalgic void with great level design, creatures, combat and that flawless old school feel. But perhaps I am just biased for that PlayStation 1/2 era of video games. Regardless, if you are looking for something to fill that hole in your stomach from beating Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 for the tenth time, Lunacid is the one for you.

What are Classes in Lunacid?

Unlike what we typically see with the more modern FromSoftware entries such as Elden Ring and Dark Souls, Classes are mainly used to determine your starting stats. However in Lunacid, you are given a unique ability depending on who you pick. As always, when choosing a Class, you will want to think about what kind of Build you wish to work on so that your levelling up can go towards wielding specific weapons or dealing higher damage being a magic user. Lunacid works just like this, with the added touch of an ability. If you are someone who wants to go for a Strength Build or opt for Dexterity or Faith instead, these are all viable options for your playthrough. For first playthroughs, it is always appropriate to opt for the most balanced Class which in this case is the Thief Class in Lunacid. This acts as almost a canon Class in that the opening cutscene labels you (the protagonist) as a common thief.

The Thief Class in Lunacid gives players the ability to find Treasure easier than other Classes chosen. With a highly balanced Base Stats of 5 across the board. What is another incredibly important Stat is the Health you begin with. You will note that some are much smaller than others, such as the Thief’s 100 to the Knight’s 220. Just like Dark Souls 3, each Class starts at a different Level too. The Classes available in Lunacid are:

  • Knight – High strength and defence but low speed. Excels at combat (220 HP).
  • Thief – Great at finding Treasure and has a balanced starter Stats for any Build (100 HP).
  • Witch – High Intelligence for Magic Builds (85 HP).
  • Vampire – Health regeneration from foes losing blood but weak to fire (155 HP).
  • Undead – Good Strength and highly resistant to the elements (160 HP).
  • Royal – Good Stats for Speed, Dexterity and Intelligence but low in Strength (105 HP).
  • Cleric – Higher Intelligence for Magic Builds than the Witch (160 HP).
  • Shinobi – Great Stats for Speed, Strength and Dexterity (145 HP).
  • Forsaken – Hard Mode of Lunacid, Base Stats of 1 across the board (20 HP).

What Classes Should You Use?

What souls-like games have taught us, including Dark Souls itself is that your HP does not particularly matter in the context to beating the game. Many of the best Builds focus on specific Attributes rather than increasing your Vigor. Souls-likes require skill in mastering and beating them, alongside learning the Boss’s moveset and using it to your advantage. Most souls-like games implement combat that is more about you being able to master the dodge or parry mechanics. But in Lunacid, the Classes do not matter as much as you would have initially thought. Whilst you get to choose what type of character you will like to roam around the Great Well as, the real differences lies in their passive ability and starter items. Classes such as Knight and Witch have healing potions whilst others such as Thief, Vampire and Undead offer a unique in-game ability that can be used throughout.

Because of this, who you pick is more determined by what you get at the beginning of the game, or their unique skill that can be used throughout. The Base Stats are irrelevant as KIRA offers players the chance to allocate a ton of points for your Build with every Level Up. Therefore, in choosing the best possible Class in Lunacid, we recommend the following Classes to use:

Our top Class in Lunacid is the Vampire, for its ability to replenish HP if your foe bleeds in combat. Next, we recommend the Knight due to its Strength and starting healing items. We recommend the Cleric for all-out Magic Builds and for those who want to explore to your heart’s content, the Undead is the one for you. However, the Undead could easily be switched with Thief as as the Undead takes critical fire damage. Finally, if you do not want to have a Magic Build, we highly recommend the Shinobi for its great starting Build for combat with high Speed, Strength and Dex. Shinobi may be a more viable option than Knight due to their versatility in combat.

Remember that whatever you pick, you will be able to allocate a ton of points for your Build so base your choice more on if you want Strength (close-range combat), Intelligence (Magic) or Dexterity (long-range combat) as your Build and go from there.
