If this describes the rollercoaster of emotions that you feel during these dice rolls, you’ll want to make sure your class is at its best. Rolling dice in BG3 can turn out a number of different ways, some good some not so good. Each roll takes a number from your characters stats and adds any extra numbers to the roll, making it viable for people to spec into certain abilities. But if you’re like us, you’ll want to maximize the number of abilities you have bonuses on, which can be difficult for every class. That is why players should turn to one class in particular in order to try and maximize every skill check. The best class for skill checks in BG3 is going to be the Bard. This is primarily due to the skill Jack of all Trades, unlockable at level 2.

For those who are unaware, this skill adds half of your proficiency bonus to checks that you aren’t proficient in. This allows you to focus on abilities such as dexterity and charisma, while having decent odds at passing something like a strength check. Along with skills such as Deception, Performance, and Persuasion, which adds a +5 to your dice roll for each respective ability. A big part of passing skill checks in BG3 along with class choice, is race choice. Where certain races like Drow and Githyanki have even more special options available when combined with bard. And races like Halflings have passive effects such as Lucky, which allows you to re-roll any critical failure on your part.
