As of the games full release, the max level a character can reach in Baldur’s Gate 3 is 12. Combine this with the fact that every level up teaches you new skills and is very important, and our guide is going to be a more general overview of the class. We might not tell you the specific armor to wear to help you, but we’ll take a look at the ones you’re proficient at. Speaking of armor, Barbarians are proficient with Light and Medium Armor, as well as shields.

This is why you’ll want to take advantage of the best medium armor and shields you can find early on. As the tank, you’ll be counted upon to not only take a decent amount of damage, but to dish out a bit yourself. Since Barbarians are proficient with both simple and martial weapons, a mace or even hand axe could do the trick.

If you notice that you’re not dealing enough damage but have good survivability, you might want to drop the shield and look into specializing into two-handed weapons. Weapons such as the Bloodied Greataxe that you can find fairly early, provide massive damage numbers. Once you reach level 3, choose the Berserker subclass to take advantage of a no holds barred pure strength build. Just make sure that you use your Rage action proactively, and stack more points in Strength as soon as possible. As it will be the only trait you’ll really have to focus on for your character. At least, until you reach later sections of the game.
