The forge yearns for the Mithral Ore

As players progress through the tail end of act 1 in Baldur’s Gate, you’ll need to traverse the dark horrors that lie below. We’re speaking about the Underdark, an area beneath the Blighted Village, and your ticket to getting one step closer to Baldur’s Gate. During your time spelunking down here, you’ll come across a few different subsections of the Underdark. One of these locations being the once-illustrious Adamantine Forge. A place where special items are forged and crafted, provided you have the necessary materials. And with limited resources, being able to craft every item might not be in the cards for your party. So we’re going to lower the forge and take a look at the best Adamantine items in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) ranked.

Our list covers all 6 Adamantine items currently available in BG3, ranking them from best to worst. We’ll be going over the necessary materials you’ll need to craft them, as well as what makes them better/worse than others. It should be noted that players are only able to find 2 Mithral Ore in a single playthrough. This ore is one of the key ingredients to any Adamantine item, so you’ll want to make sure you’re getting your worth out of it.

#1 – Adamantine Scale Mail

  • How to Craft: 1x Scale Mail Mould, 1x Mithral Ore
  • Proficiency: Medium Armor Proficiency
  • Armour Class: 16

The Adamantine Scale Mail is our best Adamantine item in BG3. Along with all the stats we’ve already stated, you’ll also gain a few passive bonuses. The first one being Magical Plate, which reduced all incoming damage by 1. Another useful bonus you get is the Adamantine Backlash, which sends an attacker reeling for 2 turns when they successfully attack you. Finally, players will receive a limit on AC while this armour is equipped, regardless of your Dex. Allowing only a max of +2, this gear is great for those without a boost in Dex, and for those who don’t have proficiency in Heavy Armour.

#2 – Adamantine Longsword

  • How to Craft: 1x Longsword Mould, 1x Mithral Ore
  • Weapon Qualities: Longsword, Versatile
  • Damage: 1D8+1 Slashing (One-Handed), 1D10+1 Slashing (Two-Handed)

The second best item on the list and our first weapon, is the Adamantine Longsword. A truly devastating weapon, the longsword is one of a few versatile weapons in the game. Meaning the weapon is capable of being wielded in one hand or two, with a few stat differences when choosing one or the other. Players will also receive Pommel Strike, Lacerate, and Rush attack if your proficient with longswords. Along with ignoring enemy resistances to slashing, passive bonuses like Diamondsbane and Versatile Hitter are gained when using this weapon.

#3 – Adamantine Splint Armour

  • How to Craft: 1x Splint Mould, 1x Mithral Ore
  • Proficiency: Heavy Armour Proficiency
  • Armour Class: 18

Taking a look at the only other piece of armour you can get from the forge is the Adamantine Splint Armour. The chestplate has a few key differences from the scale main, such as its Magical Plate reducing incoming damage by 2, and completely negating critical hits. Along with not receiving any extra AC from Dex, players will benefit from the Intense Adamantine Backlash.

#4 – Adamantine Scimitar

  • How to Craft: 1x Scimitar Mould, 1x Mithral Ore
  • Weapon Qualities: Scimitar, Light, Finesse
  • Damage: 1D6+1 Slashing

Starting off the bottom half of the list is the Adamantine Scimitar, a light finesse weapon. If you end up finding the mould for this before any of the others prior, you might want to end up saving your Mithral Ore. The weapon sports some interesting stats, such as Swift Hitter, sending your target reeling for 1 turn when you attack. That being said, unless you are a Rogue or have proficiencies with finesse weapons, Lethal Weapon and Diamondsbane aren’t enough to warrant crafting this item. Unless you just have a stockpile of Mithral Ore.

#5 – Adamantine Shield

  • How to Craft: 1x Shield Mould, 1x Mithral Ore
  • Proficiency: Shield Proficiency
  • Armour Class: +2

Our second to last item on the list, and the only non-weapon/armour, comes the Adamantine Shield. You gain an equipment feature that allows you to send an attacker reeling for 2 turns if their melee attack misses. The shield also prevents enemies from landing any critical hits on you, which can help out in a pinch. But at the end of the day, the passive bonus you gain from the shield, doesn’t warrant crafting it, if you have other options. Other more common shields have the same amount of AC if not more, and there are many other alternatives that won’t use up Mithral Ore.

#6 – Adamantine Mace

  • How to Craft: 1x Mace Mould
  • Weapon Qualities: Dippable
  • Damage: 1D6+1 Bludgeoning

Rounding out the final item of the list, is the Adamantine Mace. While there isn’t really an objectively ‘bad’ item on this list, the mace is by far the worst item out of all Adamantine weapons. It comes equipped with the basic Adamantine benefits, like Diamondsbane and Lethal Weapon for Bludgeoning. Sadly, that’s where it’s bonuses pretty much end, significantly decreasing the effectiveness when compared to the other weapons on this list. However, just because the mace is at the bottom of our list, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t craft it. If you were only able to find the Mace Mould and are ok with losing a Mithral Ore, having one Adamantine item is better than having none.
