Atomic Heart – Can You Save the Trapped Man? Answered

Can you be the savior and does your choice matter?

When playing the Atomic Heart you will encounter a lot of odd situations, whether they be fights with weird-looking enemies, mysterious puzzles, or dialogues that, let’s say, you just didn’t expect. One such situation that has gotten many players wondering what they should do happens in Algae Lab, where you need to pick up one of the canisters.

Is There an Option for Saving the Trapped Man in Atomic Heart?

The man trapped under the rubble that you get to meet and speak with is not rescuable. In-game you find out that he is actually dead already and that you are just hearing his Thought Device that helps him relive his final moments.

However, you do get the choice of leaving him behind or ending his suffering but since he is dead already, he is out of his misery. Whatever you decide to do, won’t affect your game afterward so feel free to do whatever you think is best or more fun.

Further, the game giving us a choice of whether to let someone suffer or end their life reminds me of an old horror video game called Suffering. Those who played it know that the game was riddled with various good/bad choice situations that you were supposed to decide on. One of those was a situation where you were offered to end the agony of a dying cop or let him live and go through the pain.

Sometimes adding these moral choices to video games, especially horror ones, can bring the experience to a whole new level. You don’t feel that you are being fed a monotonous story, but instead that you are participating in creating a unique one.
