Does Atomic Heart Have Multiple Endings? Answered

Branching Pathways?

In games with branching storylines, a lot of the fun lies in seeing how they differ from each other. I can still remember how iconic the endings for the original Bioshock were. And, who could forget UNDERTALE, which made it so that, if you wanted to see the alternate ending, you had to play it over again, but if you spared everyone in your last playthrough, you now had to kill everyone, and vis versa.

In the case of Atomic Heart, one could question if there are branching pathways. It would certainly make sense, given its frequent comparison to the likes of Bioshock. But, before we say for sure, let’s take a dive into the world of Atomic Heart as we explain if it has more than one ending. And, if so, how do you unlock them?

Does Atomic Heart Have Multiple Endings?

Yes. In fact, as in many other games of its kind, there’s a good ending and a bad ending. But, those terms are incredibly relative, as in this writer’s opinion, neither endings feel good. In fact, the first ending feels anticlimactic, and the second just feels depressing.

How to Get “Good” Ending in Atomic Heart

To be put on the path for the “good” ending in Atomic Heart, wait until you wake up at Granny Zina’s. After a cutscene, you’ll be given a choice:

  1. I’m Not Laying a Finger on Sechenov. I’m out. I’ve had enough of this game.
  2. Whatever, lady … why don’t you show me what’s in that arsenal of yours?

You must choose the first option when presented with this choice in order to land the “good” ending. It should be reiterated, however, it doesn’t particularly feel like a good ending.

How to Get “Bad” Ending in Atomic Heart

If you want to secure the “bad” ending, however, when faced with this choice, pick the second option. It’s not much better, but it certainly feels like the more fleshed out — possibly even canon — option.
