Answering whether or not it’s worth it to use potions in Hogwarts Legacy isn’t as black and white as you may think. The average player doesn’t need to use potions to get through the game on normal – but they’ll certainly help in certain fights throughout the main story.

So, if you’re just trying to enjoy an average playthrough of Hogwarts Legacy, ask yourself this: “Do I enjoy the potion and gardening system?” If the answer is yes, then potions are worth using. If you don’t particularly care for those systems, then no, potions aren’t worth using.

What about the non-average player, though? Well, if you’re playing the game on hard, potions are definitely worth using. Not just that, but several of them are worth upgrading with Talents, too.

The upgraded Maxima Potion, for example, will increase your damage and allow all your spells to pierce shields, something that’s invaluable on Hard difficulty. Likewise, the upgraded Focus Potion will massively increase your spell cooldown rate for pretty much the entirety of combat.

It comes down to this, “are you playing on hard mode?” If yes, potions are worth using. If not, “do you enjoy the potion and gardening system?” If yes, potions are worth using. If not, you’re better off not bothering with them.
