Necromorph Ranking by Difficulty in Dead Space Remake

14. Wheezer

The Wheezer are the most harmless Necromorph in Dead Space. They appear hunched over with a gigantic belly filled with toxic gas. They do not attack you aside from filling the room with gas that if you take too long to kill the Wheezer, you will suffocate. You need to take these out as quickly as you can. If they are in a room with other Necromorph types, you should focus on stomping on the Wheezer first to eliminate the gas threat. Keep in mind as they are not particularly hostile that you want to conserve as much ammo as possible. There is absolutely no need in using your weapon against them as they do not move. Instead, go up to them and stomp on them instead of using any weapon of Stasis.

13. Infector

The Infector is a winged Necromorph which appears in rooms filled with bodies that have not been infected. Their goal is to infect the bodies, transforming them into Necromorphs. This Necromorph makes its first appearance with an iconic and terrifying scene, truly showing off the capabilities of Motive Studio. The Infector is very easy to shoot down and should be focussed on before it attempts to infect any bodies nearby. As it is a flying creature, you would do better to shoot this one down instead of attempting to get in close or use Stasis on it. We recommend keeping an eye out for it whenever you enter an area with bodies that have not been tainted with the infection.

12. Guardian

The Guardian sits in the wall pumping out small Necromorph Pods to do its bidding via projectiles. These take a little longer to kill than other Necromorph in Dead Space. You want to keep shooting its tentacles until the creature dissipates. It will try to send out small Necromorph but they can easily be shot down with one bullet. You should aim for the chest, where the tentacles protrude from. Do not attempt to get close to this Necromorph. Any creature with tentacles should be kept at a distance. The best weapons to use here would be anything that can shoot off its tentacles, therefore you should avoid the use of the flamethrower as you need to be precise when versing this Necromorph.

11. Exploder

These are exactly what you think they would be. The Exploder Necromorph is a mutated humanoid creature with a giant explosive growth as its arm. The reason this is placed on the lower end of the list is due to its easy way of killing these with one bullet. For the Exploder, you just need to keep a safe distance from them. They will usually appear in quantities to overwhelm you. Remain calm and aim for the growth on their arm. This will cause them to explode, killing them instantly. Of course, if they get too close it will deal a considerable amount of damage to you so make sure that you keep away from Exploders whenever you see them.

Do not bother with trying to take them out via shooting anything over than their arm. Your best bet is to immediately aim in and go for the kill on their arm before they have a chance to run at you. Use these as target practice for future Necromorphs you will meet in Dead Space.

10. Pregnant

Pregnant Necromorph are Slashers with a stomach sack filled with smaller Necromorph. If you shoot the sack you will release other Necromorph, therefore you should avoid this at all costs. Instead, opt to shoot the Pregnant Necromorph’s legs, rendering the creature useless. These move far slower than that of other Necromorph, for that reason you do not need to panic. You may be tricked to shoot the sack thinking it will explode or do critical damage against it, but do not be fooled. If you release the Necromorph from the sack you will be trapped trying to stomp or shoot a bunch of little creatures that swarm your body. They are super quick too, so it is best to keep that Pregnant Necromorph at bay by shooting out its legs.

9. Divider

The Divider is one of the more annoying Necromorphs in the game. It first makes its appearance as a decapitated head with face-hugger like qualities. Its sole purpose in this form is to strangle you. We recommend keeping a far distance from these and practicing your aim work with these ones. As the Divider will make itself known soon. Coming at you in its full form should you shoot it, its limbs and head will fall off and attack you. With very fast movement that can be overwhelming as multiple body parts crawl at you. The best strategy in beating a Divider is to use the Flamethrower. This will stop it from separating and destroy it quickly.

Realistically, you do not want to shoot it with standard weaponry as the Necromorph will divide. Unless you have great aim, the Divider should be taken on whole with a Flamethrower, Contact Beam, or using the Plasma Cutter after halting its movements with Stasis.

8. Leaper

The Leaper jumps at you from afar, closing the gap between yourself and the Necromorph. For that reason, it is quite difficult to keep your distance from them. What you need to do is line up your shot and aim for the specific moment in which the Leaper is mid air. You should use Kinesis here to halt its movements in the air in which you can get off the killing blow to the creature. All weapons are a viable option to use again these Necromorph, so use whatever you are most comfortable aiming with. You should specifically arm for both the aim and the leg to render it useless against you. It is fair to assume that most Necromorph should not get their head taken off as it will result in the creatures to attack unpredictably.

7. Lurker

To take down a Lurker you need to focus on eliminating its tentacles. These Necromorph will release multiple so keep that in mind when you are trying to take one down. They are one of the smallest Necromorphs in the game, therefore they can be hard to spot. If you see one, make sure you keep a safe distance from them as always as their tentacle reach is not that far compared to others. You need to keep an eye on these as they are very quick and like to hide themselves away from your line of sight. Whilst they have lower health than other Types, these can be tough to beat if they continuously reposition.

6. Leviathan

Leviathan is a standalone Necromorph, acting as a Boss in the Dead Space Remake. It is a gigantic mutation that is encountered inside the Food Storage Facility. When versing this beast you need to be moving the entire time. Imagine you are playing space invaders with this one. In the Dead Space Remake, the Leviathan is found against the wall in a Zero-G area. The technique to beating this Boss is by using Kinesis on the explosive containers floating around you. Be sure to always have your eye on the Leviathan so you are never open to its attacks. Its tentacles are easy to dodge so long as you are staying alert of its attacks. If you have good aim you should shoot the tentacles as they approach and dodge at the last second.

The main way of defeating Leviathan is by waiting for the moment in which it opens its mouth at its centre. It will shoot out an explosive ball from it several times but it only goes in a straight line just like its tentacles. Because of this, move slightly to the left to right and shoot the mouth/core of the Leviathan. This will do the most damage against the Necromorph. For this one, we recommend using Hand Cannon and Plasma Cutter.

The second time you meet Leviathan is outside the Station where it is blocking the blast doors of the Ishimura. You need to use the ADS Cannon to defeat it this time around. The Leviathan will shoot its tentacles out at you from afar, you need to make sure that your eye is always on it to avoid its attacks.

5. Slasher

The mascots of the Dead Space franchise, these Necromorph are relatively easy to kill should you know where to aim. To take down a Slasher, you must take out both of its arms. Whilst this sounds simple, the Slashers are one of the quickest Necromorph Types in the game. Make sure that you never shoot off their heads or their attacking pattern becomes unpredictable. It will likely result in obtaining a Game Over. Instead, aim to take out its legs so that you can hit its arms easier with the creature on the floor. Slashers appear throughout Dead Space, giving you many chances to learn its attacks and improve your aim to take on its upgraded form in the later portion of the game, Twitcher.

4. Twitcher

The Twitcher is an upgraded form of the Slasher, with distorted movements making it harder to hit when it charges. However, just like the Slasher, your aim is to take out its limbs to stop it from coming at you. You should use a well times Stasis hit to pause the Twitchers movement towards you whilst taking that moment to shoot its leg. With upgraded weapons, this should take the creature down. However, this Necromorph does play Possum. You need to wait to see its actual death animation to know that this Necromorph is indeed down and out.

3. Brute

The Brute is the tankiest Necromorph in the game. When taking on the Brute you need to halt its movements and use Stasis once the Brute charges to get behind the creature. From here you can pummel its back with bullets as it is its weak spot. Simply shooting all of your ammo in its arms and face will not be enough to take this beast down. You should aim for its back legs to reduce its speed and ability to catch you. Whilst you can come at this Necromorph with everything you have, you will be wasting a lot of ammo against it. Instead, opt to use something heavy hitting like the Line Gun and Contact Beam against it. Remember that you should focus on its back legs to stop it from running at you.

2. The Hive Mind

Of course the final Boss would be one of the hardest Necromorph to defeat in the game. Players need to focus their attention and aim on the glowing pods on the Hive Mind’s head in order to get in damage against the creature. With multiple stages to go through in typically final Boss fashion. Similarly to taking on the Leviathan, you need to be on high alert on The Hive’s tentacles. It can throw this at you whenever with a crashing downwards motion. All rationing of ammo has lead to this moment so now is the time to let The Hive Mind have it. After all, Isaac Clarke has nothing left to lose at this point.

1. The Hunter

The Hunter is the Mr. X of Dead Space. With regenerative abilities and incredibly strong attacks, The Hunter is one to avoid when you encounter him in the game. The best thing you can do against this Necromorph is to run and look around at your environment for items to use against the creature. From halting its movements on obstacles to using Stasis upon taking out its limbs. You need to keep moving whilst periodically aiming to cut off the limbs, placing it inside Stasis once you limit its movability. The Hunter is quite slower, however take that as a warning for its strength.

This Necromorph will also appear around other Necromorph Types. You need to take out the others and keep a distance from The Hunter so that you are not caught out. Bring your best weapon whenever you face him and be sure that you never let your guard down.
