All Enemy Types in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, Explained

The Horde

Poxwalkers will be the backbone of the horde in Warhammer 40K: Darktide and they are the easiest ones to be killed. They only have a melee weapon and a weak HP pool but they compensate for that in numbers. The best thing you can do is lure them to narrow passages and deal with them there.

As the game progresses Poxwalkers will become stronger and even get laser guns, so take care!

Specialized Enemies

The next tier of enemies is Specialized ones. They come with a more clever AI and special abilities that can disable you and your allies. They aren’t too difficult to kill but when a couple of them are combined with a fearsome Horde they are not to be ignored. This is why it’s vital that you and your team keep an eye out and always focus down special enemies when you see them.

Pox Hound

Strengths: Fast, Disabler, Dangerous when close

Weaknesses: Low HP, Harmless at a distance, Can be heard howling before an attack

Special ability: Catching his victim, permanently disabling and damaging them until someone kills it.

Trapper

Strengths: Sneaking, Disabler

Weaknesses: Deals no damage, Easy target once alone

Special ability: Uses net launcher to capture one person in your party and make them easy prey for the Horde.

Scab Shotgunner

Strengths: Strong close-range damage, Can knock down multiple players easily

Weaknesses: Ineffective at a distance

Specialty: Strong shotgun

Scab Gunner

Strengths: Solid damage, Suppressing fire, Long range

Weaknesses: Can be focused easily

Specialty: Automatic rifle

Dreg Tox Flamer

Strengths: High damage, Close range, AoE damage, Zoning

Weaknesses: Easy prey for long-range weapons

Specialty: Flamethrower that burns the ground and prevents you from walking on it

Mutant

Strengths: Fast-moving, Huge Damage, Big HP pool

Weaknesses: Not effective at a distance

Special ability: Charges a player, smashes them to the ground, and throws them to a different spot.

Pox Buster

Strengths: Huge damage, AoE damage, Fast

Weaknesses: Dies on explosion, easily killed from a distance

Special ability: Running into your party and detonating itself for massive AoE damage.

Scab Bomber

Strengths: Solid damage, AoE damage, Zoning

Weaknesses: Easily killed

Special ability: Throws fire grenades at you and your team that burns the ground thus zoning you and preventing free movement.

Scab Sniper

Strengths: Shoots from a great distance, Huge damage

Weaknesses: Easily spotted, Can be counter-sniped easily

Specialty: Snipes you from a great distance, if you get closer he will run away to reposition.

Elite Enemies

Even stronger and better-equipped special units are called Elite enemies. Most of them are melee warriors with excellent armor that will require piercing projectiles if you want to bring them down faster.

Mauler

Heavy armor and heavy hammer are the trademarks of this common elite foe. Moves and attacks in a slower manner but when he hits you he deals massive damage. Try aiming for the head when dealing with Mauler.

Crusher

A bigger and stronger version of Mauler, Crusher will devastate you and your team if you are on the bad side of his stick. Moves and attacks even slower than Mauler, but deals huge damage.

Bulwark

Another giant with a melee weapon in one hand and a shield in another, Bulwark will require teamwork to be defeated. He has high armor, and high damage, and is virtually impossible to bring him down from the front side. The best solution would be to use one player to lure him while others flank him and attack him from behind if possible.

Reaper

Reaper is a giant with a machine gun, pounding bursts of bullets at you and your friends. He can easily suppress you with his massive damage so it’s vital that you get up close to him and melee him. When attacked with a melee weapon he will stop firing so try playing around that fact.

Bosses

Elites of the elites, bosses, will be the strongest type of enemies you can meet in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. However, you don’t have to worry much as there will be only one boss per level. You won’t be in danger of getting swarmed by a number of units like you will with Specialized and Elite enemies.

The Plague Ogryn

Plague Ogryn is scary even when you hear his name, let alone meet him. His massive close combat damage is mitigated by his slow movement speed so a well-organized party will have no problem spreading out and bringing him down.

The Scab Captain

Scab Captain is a versatile fighter that uses both melee and ranged weapons, so you can never be quite sure that you’re out of danger. He has an energy shield that bursts, doing AoE damage to everyone around him, and regenerates in a couple of seconds. Try having some players from your party approach him in a melee range to avoid having to deal with his ranged attacks.

We have named all the current types of enemies there are. As the list of these monsters grows, so will our article. Check out some of our other Darktide coverage such as All Warhammer 40K: Darktide Difficulty Levels and their differences.
