How to Activate DRS in F1 22

DRS is a vital mechanism in F1 22 that can help you overtake other drivers

If you’re a fan of Formula 1, then you’ve probably heard the term DRS or “Drag Reduction System” before. Which essentially features an adjustable part of the rear wing that (when opened) improves speed by 10-12 kilometres per hour. Resulting in a system that assists with overtaking other cars.

It’s a relatively controversial driver-controlled device, but nevertheless, an important part of Formula 1 racing. And believe it or not, it’s a system that’s featured in the latest F1 22 video game as well.

Here is everything you need to know about DRS and how to activate it in F1 22.

How to Activate DRS in F1 22

10 kilometres per hour might not sound like a lot when you’re travelling over 300 kilometres per hour anyway. But it can actually make quite the difference and even be the deciding factor between you winning or losing a race.

However, much like real-life F1 drivers, you can only use DRS under certain circumstances. In that the system can only be enabled after the opening two laps of the race and drivers must be within one second of the car in front of them in order to activate it. Also, racers can only utilize DRS in certain areas of the track, which are aptly called “DRS Zones”.

So long as these prerequisites are met, you can activate DRS either automatically or manually.

To activate it automatically, all you need to do is:

  • Go to “Settings” and then over to the “Assists” tab
  • Press on the “DRS” assist
  • Flip it to “On”

If you’d rather activate DRS manually, then you will need to press either Triangle (for PlayStation) or Y (for Xbox) once you are inside of an active DRS zone. Although, these controls can be adjusted to your liking by navigating through the settings menu.
