Elden Ring Moonveil Location

When it comes to swords, katanas always seem to have a greater natural coolness factor than broadswords. I couldn’t tell you why, it’s just how it is. Katanas are an entire class of sword in Elden Ring, and they are very cool, but do you know what would be cooler? A magic katana with awesome stat scaling. As it so happens, such a katana does exist in Elden Ring, and it’s one of the best katanas (possibly one of the best weapons period) in the game. Here’s where to find Moonveil in Elden Ring.

Moonveil is a unique katana in Elden Ring that is almost tailor-made for DEX/INT builds. Moonveil has a physical damage rating of 73 and, more importantly, a magic damage rating of 87. It has an E in STR scaling, so it’s not that great for physical fighters, but with a D in DEX scaling and a C in INT scaling, spellcasters and bandits can make exquisite use of it. Oh, and did I mention its special skill, Transient Moonlight, lets you do quick-draw slashes that fire off light beams? If you’ve ever wanted to be Vergil from Devil May Cry, this is the sword that’ll let you do it.

Where to Find Moonveil in Elden Ring

So where is this lovely specimen of enchanted steel? Well, good news, it’s in Limgrave. Bad news, it’s right on the border between Limgrave and Caelid, which isn’t exactly friendly territory for folks just starting out their playthrough. 

Moonveil can be found in a dungeon called Gael Tunnel, located right on the border between Limgrave and Caelid. If you look to the far east of Limgrave’s map, you’ll see the spot where the ground starts turning a dark red coloration. The entrance to Gael Tunnel can be found down the road to the east of Summonwater Village, which you’ll pass by just following the main road past Stormveil Castle.

Gael Tunnel is a deep mine, full of soldiers and miners armed with heavy, burning weapons. They are strong, but not very sturdy, especially if you can get the drop on them. There’s a Site of Grace at the bottom of the entrance shaft, so don’t worry too much if you’re having a little trouble getting past them all.

As you make your way deeper into the mine, you’ll come across a pair of wooden double doors. Before opening those doors, take the smaller wooden door to your left to find a Site of Grace, as well as an exit back into the overworld if you need to leave. You’ll also find everyone’s favorite talking jar, Alexander, if you helped him out of his little predicament before, so make sure to talk to him a few times to keep his questline going.

When you’ve steeled yourself, open the wooden double doors, and you’ll be face-to-face with the Magma Wyrm, a tall drink of lava who spews molten flame and, for some reason, carries around a gigantic sword. Why does a dragon need a sword…? Anyway, the Magma Wyrm is a difficult fight, but the best way to fight him is to keep your distance and use magic attacks. Characters with high INT may have an easier time here, as multi-hit spells like Glintblade Phalanx can more easily break the Wyrm’s stance and leave him open for a critical hit in his eye. If you run out of magic and need to get close for melee combat, try to stick around the Wyrm’s hind legs, as most of his attacks are front-facing. Just watch out for when he slams the ground.

If you can successfully defeat the Magma Wyrm, you’ll be rewarded with 7,500 Runes, a Dragon Heart, and most importantly, Moonveil in all its shimmering glory. Just a heads up, to use Moonveil, you need a STR of 12, a DEX of 18, and an INT of 23. It’s a tall order, but once you can use it, don’t be surprised if it completely supplants your Glintstone Staff in your arsenal.
