Where to Get Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

Where to Get Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

In most RPGs, mimics are a mild nuisance at best, ambushing you when you think you’re about to get something nice from a chest. In Souls games, however, and in Elden Ring especially, mimics are downright terrifying. You don’t know real heart-stopping terror until you’re messing with random Hollows, only to have one suddenly transform into a gigantic bear in a puff of smoke. One of the most intimidating mimics is the Mimic Tear, who transforms into an empowered duplicate of your own character. However, it is possible to get this mighty foe on your side, at least in spectral form. Here’s where to get Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring.

The Mimic Tear Spirit is, debatably, one of the best summon spirits in the entire game because, much like when you’re fighting a real Mimic Tear, summoning the Mimic Tear Spirit summons a duplicate of your own character, with the same weapons, armor, and stats. Imagine having two of yourself attacking foes from both sides in a pincer attack; it’s just as helpful as it sounds. The only catch is that, unlike other summons in the game, you have to spend HP to summon the Mimic Tear Spirit rather than FP, 660 to be precise, so it can be potentially deadly if your Vigor isn’t high enough. It’s totally a risk worth undertaking, though, and the same goes for the actual process by which you get the Ashes.

Where to get Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

To get Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring:

  1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn in Caelid
  2. Go to the meteor impact point at Fort Haight West in Mistwood and follow the path to Nokron
  3. Defeat the Mimic Tear
  4. Continue to Night’s Sacred Ground and open the fog door in the chapel with a Stonesword Key
  5. Defeat the enemy to earn the Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes

Before you can go hunting for the Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes, you need to have defeated one of the game’s major bosses, Starscourge Radahn, who is encountered in Redmane Castle in Caelid. Defeating Radahn causes a gigantic meteorite to fall from the sky and strike the Lands Between, creating an underground passage to where you want to be.

The impact point of the meteorite is in Fort Haight West in Mistwood. Make your way over there and enter the big hole in the ground that it created. Follow the resulting pathway until you eventually find yourself in a hidden area, the Eternal City, Nokron. Nokron is a pretty straightforward area and should feel familiar if you’ve played any of the more linear Souls games. Just follow the obvious path until you encounter a Fog Door, on the other side of which is the Mimic Tear itself.

Now, I know I said the Mimic Tear is intimidating, but as it so happens, it has one critical weakness: your gear. When you cross the fog, the Mimic Tear will appear with the exact same weapons and armor you’re wearing, which means if you’re wearing nothing, it will also be wearing nothing. Simply cross the fog in your birthday suit, call up some random spirits to keep the Mimic Tear occupied, and re-equip your gear. It won’t change form, so you can defeat it easily.

After the Mimic Tear is dealt with, continue along the path and you’ll find yourself in Night’s Sacred Ground, walking along rooftops. You’re looking for an old chapel, inside of which, behind the altar, is an Imp Statue and fog gate. Crack the Imp Statue to lift the fog, and you’ll be confronted by a single enemy. Take them out any way you like, and you can claim the Mimic Tear Ashes. Just remember to put your clothes on before summoning it; you don’t want it to be naked when it’s on your side!
