Crafting is typically a vital part of many RPG games, and Elden Ring is no exception. However, being the open-world game it is, it’s possible to venture off in a random direction and then have no idea why your crafting option is grayed out in the menu. We’ve made this guide to explain how to unlock crafting in Elden Ring if you find yourself in this situation.
Yes, we know some people might think this is a ridiculous thing. Alas, it’s entirely possible for players to randomly venture out and start their Elden Ring adventures without really following the usual path. So, here’s what you need to do to unlock crafting in Elden Ring if you’re a bit confused.
How to Unlock Crafting in Elden Ring
To unlock crafting in Elden Ring, you need to purchase a Crafting Kit from the NPC Merchant Kale in Church of Elleh. The crafting kit will cost you 300 Runes, and after you purchase it, an onscreen menu will pop up explaining how item crafting works in Elden Ring.
The Church of Elleh location is shown on the map below, and you’ll find it as soon as you go north out of The First Step area. Merchant Kale is sitting next to a campfire in the location, so you can’t miss him. Speak with him and choose the Purchase menu to browse his wares.
You can learn additional recipes, like making arrows, by purchasing or finding cookbooks scattered throughout the world. Oftentimes, you can buy these cookbooks from merchants, and Merchant Kale sells a couple himself that you will likely want to acquire, especially if you’re a bow-user.
Now that you have a crafting kit, you can go to the start menu and choose the Item Crafting option. From the Item Crafting menu, you can craft various items useful in your journey! That’s everything you need to know about unlocking crafting and how the system works in Elden Ring.
