How to Choose Your Islanders

To start, you’ll need to unlock the Campsite function and have it placed down and accessible. You will also need Amiibo Cards for the islanders you want to move on to your island.

Next, go to Resident Services and head to the Nook Stop terminal. From here you will want to select the “Invite a Camper” option. You will then be asked to scan your Amiibo Card.

After you scan the card, you’ll see a cutscene with whatever character you just scanned in. They will then be at your island as soon as you leave the Resident Services building. Head over to your campsite and you will find them waiting for you.

Go inside and keep talking to them until they say they want to see something made by the people on the island. They will then give you a task to make them something DIY, and give you the recipe to make it for them. This is actually a good way to get some new DIY recipes as an added bonus.

Go and make whatever they asked you to make, and then go back and show it to them. You will receive something as a reward, and then they will continue talking to you. They should eventually express some interest in living on the island. You can then invite them to stay.

It’s not over yet, though. They will leave in the morning and you will need to repeat this entire process again. This means you will need to go back to the Nook Stop terminal and invite them again. Head back to the campsite and do all the steps once again. They will once again express an interest in staying on your island, but…

You will have to complete all these steps for the THIRD and final time. After another day, repeat the steps again. After you make their item and they express an interest in staying on your island yet again, they will actually mean it this time.

It takes three days to complete this entire process, but it’s worth it if you really want specific islanders living with you. It helps to have a plot of land already available so they can move in right away.

If you already have 10 villagers on your island, when the new islander is ready to move in they will ask you if you think a current village will be willing to move out. You can choose who you want to replace this way.
