Wayfinder brings an interesting MMORPG experience to the gaming world that resembles some others like Dark Souls or Warframe but is unique in its own way. The game will start with six characters (possibly more to come in the future) and some of them will be available for instant play while others will need to be unlocked.

Unlocking Characters in Wayfinder

At the Release Wayfinder will start with 6 characters (Wayfinders). You will instantly be able to play with one of the following 3: Silo, Wingrave, and Niss. The other 3, Senja, Kyros, and Venomess will be unlocked by playing the game or by in-game microtransactions.

You need to be careful when picking your first Wayfinder as you will be stuck with him for a while (unless you will be purchasing others with money). Luckily, the game will allow you to test all three Wayfinders available at the start of the game through a tutorial so you can take your time in making a choice.

It’s important to note that every Wayfinder is unique with a special set of talents and abilities they can use. By unlocking them you are essentially unlocking a new gameplay experience for yourself.

How Can You Unlock Wayfinders for Free?

The Wayfinders will need to be earned first and then crafted before you can play them. This means that you need to buy the blueprint for a character that you want to unlock and then gather various materials that are required to craft them. You will get your hands on these precious materials by grinding, and so far it seems that it would be quite a grind for each character.

Each hero will have a unique recipe that you need to fulfill but the important thing that you need to know is that half of the requirements (usually Gold and Memory Fragments) will be easy to come by while the other half will be rare random drops. This creates a situation where we can’t exactly tell how much time you will need to grind for one hero. However, as the game gets traction and players start to grind it more, there will surely be an abundance of detailed information in the coming weeks that will help everyone playing the game.

One Wayfinder among the starting 6 that you can unlock a bit easier is Venomess. She is unlocked as you progress through your Rewards Tower.

When it comes to the looks of Wayfinders, there won’t be any character creation of Wayfinders like we’re used to in some other MMORPGs, but their styles and weapons are fully customizable and will allow you to showcase your style.

How Can You Unlock Wayfinders with Money?

Locked characters in Wayfinder can be purchased for 1500 Runesilver which is around $15. There are some indications that prices will be adjusted for both characters and weapons so stay tuned for more info in the future.

Additionally, even though the game is free to play, the developer team has allowed people to buy Founder’s Packs that will allow the player to show appreciation for the game while also getting some pretty nice rewards. This was announced as a Early Access feature but these are still available for purchase both on PSN and Steam.

There are a couple of levels of the Founder’s Pack and once you buy them they will give you in-game currencies called Runesilver and Wayfinder Tokens. Runesilever is the main in-game currency that will allow you to buy heroes, weapons, and plenty of other cosmetics such as pets, style sets, and trinkets. Tokens seem to be a one-time award from the Founder’s Pack that allows you to instantly unlock new characters.

Every tier pack gives you a certain amount of these currencies so if you’d like to have more options as soon as you jump into the game, you definitely can. Here’s the overview of all the packs you can buy in Wayfinder right now and how much bonus currencies they bring:

• Base Pack ($19.99) – 500 Runesilver and 0 Wayfinder Tokens.
• Initiate Pack ($49.99) – 1000 Runesilver and 1 Wayfinder Token.
• Awakened Pack ($89.99) – 2250 Runesilver and 2 Wayfinder Tokens.
• Exalted Pack ($149.99) – 4200 Runesilver and 3 Wayfinder Tokens.

Will There Be Any New Characters in The Future?

In short, yes. Developers working on Wayfinder said that they plan on releasing a new character every season, so there will be plenty of different unique heroes to choose from in the future. A steady influx of new heroes into the game will also keep the game fresh and break any stale meta patterns that can form once the players get a hang of the game.
