Combat readiness will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next combatant or monster that will dare defy you in the middle of your adventures. However, you will not get to fight enemies during all of your Baldur’s Gate 3 playthroughs, so sheathing your weapon will probably be a good idea. For new players, this can be something completely new. After all, there are millions of actions and mechanics you need to learn, so sheathing your weapon may get lost in translation. With that being said, here is how to sheath your weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Sheath Weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3
Whether you would want to seem less menacing or you just want your hands free, to sheath a weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3 all you have to do is press the “U” button. This will automatically sheath any weapon you have drawn before. Alternatively, you can also access your inventory by pressing “I” and then dragging the drawn weapon and dropping it into the weapon slot of your inventory. It will result in the same result as just pressing “U”.
While you might think there are some advantages to sheathing your weapon like appearing more intimidating, which will influence other NPC’s behavior, the truth is that there are no in-game effects whatsoever. This is strictly a cosmetic choice, so if you have a very powerful and good-looking sword or other weapon, you might want to keep it drawn. If not, then just sheath it by following the steps above.

Go ahead and sheath your weapon by the click of a button. Notice that you won’t be able to sheath your weapons during combat because, well, you will need that weapon drawn to deal damage! Other than that, you are free to sheath your weapon as you please.
