Five Nights at Freddy’s, a series best known for its popularisation of mascot horror and a lore that keeps its fanbase heavily invested. Although it can get rather convoluted at times, every choice is purposeful and important to uncovering the mystery of the animatronics. After years spent being vengeful against the Purple Man, unmasked as William Afton, now to be dethroned by a copycat killer or…a literal Mimic, the story of FNAF has not been about that infamous bite for a long while now. But with every entry from Scott’s mind himself comes a ton of questions that the audience lie in wait with unbearable anticipation for confirmation or debunking their wildfire fan theories. The Ruin DLC for Security Breach is just one that answers many question but it also houses a ton of secrets much like the base game. This is Vincent’s telling of all secrets within the FNAF: Security Breach – Ruin DLC.
All Secrets to Find in FNAF: Ruin DLC
The Aftermath of Security Breach
The secrets of Ruin DLC are vast and wide, without really taking any breathers for its audience to catch up. A lot can be missed in first playthroughs primarily due to the fact that most video games nowadays do not put this much effort into the smaller things such as different dialogue experienced by hitting steps that you wouldn’t even have thought to hit. The Ruin DLC has other secrets that provide confirmation on the canon ending for Security Breach such as catching a glimpse of the Blob at the end of a stairwell, located behind a broken-down wall and in the mix of all the rubble in Chapter 1. Other hints towards this ending is the damaged Prison Quest Arcade Machine located in the room before you head into the vents in Chapter 8.
What we all likely know at this point about the murder case of Glamrock Bonnie has received a form of confirmation by Scott with the appearance of Bonnie found at the back of the Bowling Alley. Interestingly, through deactivating all Wet Floor Signs around his corpse, his eyes lose power, implying that Bonnie’s light has officially gone out once you remove the power source that was sustaining him. But the question becomes – who put them there to preserve Bonnie in an active state?
Finally, players can actually find the remains of Monty who although he is chasing you throughout the DLC, many of you may have noticed how he is missing his legs due to Security Breach. But Monty’s legs can actually be found at his catwalk via the broken platform that can transform into a portal via the Vanny mask. This will teleport you a new location where a effigy-style landfill of Monty’s belongings can be found with his animatronic legs poking out from the top. Like a messed up art piece, Monty’s legs remain on show but hidden away. Was this place created by Monty himself to reserve all the things that make his identity before The Mimic took hold of him or was it made by someone else?
The V.A.N.N.I Mask Uncovers Dialogue Secrets
The V.A.N.N.I mask is actually at the forefront for the gameplay in the Ruin DLC. Although we are all aware of the long-term effects that the mask has in store for Cassie, what with Vanessa being the previous occupant, the mask can also be used to see a different side to the animatronics in the game. With the heartfelt message left behind by Roxanne in a plea for help, you can also find unique and secret dialogue for other animatronics. When up against the Daycare Assistant (Sun & Moon), you should try speaking to the animatronic when you have one generator left to find. You can approach the Daycare Assistant throughout however it is not advised of course due to the fright you’ll get if you get too close.
But what is interesting is that if you go up to him with the mask on, you will hear a new line that states it is not safe until you turn on the other generator. Security Breach, unlike other mainline entries paints a more innocent picture of each animatronic who were previously known only as deranged, child-eating machines. This secret dialogue line highlights that the Daycare Assistant is not fully in control of his body because of The Mimic but wants you to be safe as he does not want to harm you.
All Secret Details Added into Ruin DLC
The icon and legend Chica makes her beakless return for the DLC but not in the way you may have thought. In Chapter 4 you can actually find her Arcade Machine at the back of the Women’s Restrooms. If you are into the Arcade gaming that FNAF regularly provides, Chica’s Feeding Frenzy could absorb more of your game time than the actual DLC. Unlike other Arcades in previous entries for FNAF, this Arcade game provides nothing in regard to ending obtaining, it is simply here as a twisted way of monetising the bite that Chica inflicted on the very first child victim at Freddy’s Pizzeria. By beating Wave 20 however, players can obtain Chica’s Voice Box which can be directly used to repair her in-game in Chapter 5 so be sure to keep an eye out for her near the Beauty Shop!
Alongside Chica’s and Princess Quest’s Arcade Machine is the randomly generated House of Bear Arcade which has an image of Freddy from Joy of Creation on its side. Another scene to check out is within the Theatre. When you first enter and Freddy & Friends on Tour is playing, put the Vanny mask on to witness a scene of Gregory being chased by Vanny from back in Security Breach.
There is a bizarre doll room located in Chapter 7. You need to find the hallway with the Glamrock Band’s posters and turn right from here. Enter the room with a green star opposite it on the wall. Inside you will find a bunch of Circus Baby dolls who are laughing. Although there is no movement the thought of it is incredibly creepy. What with the chalk lines indicating days passed on the wall behind the dolls and the use of the Circus Baby to link The Mimic to her from Sister Location. In the room next to it (Vanny mask needed), there is a ton of disposed of shoes just dumped in the corner. What this signifies I’m not sure but if Circus Baby is trying to tap her red shoes to get home, she’s doing a terrible job at it.
Secret Plushies and Toys
At the end of Ruin, Gregory’s backpack can be found, perfectly clean and stood upright against all of the rubble that surrounds it. Other objects such as this one can be found. For example, a plushie version of Marionette can be found in the chase sequence against The Mimic. When you are heading for the elevator, turn left instead of the correct way which will take you directly to the elevator. Instead, go left towards the giant fan and the plushie can be found behind the cardboard boxes and in the corner of this corridor. The same plushie can be found inside the Warehouse, although it is much easier to find than the other.
Roxanne’s plushie can also be found at the beginning of the game in which Cassie, very to the point says ‘cool’, just to let you know that she is a hardcore fan of the band member. You can also find a giant Freddy plushie in Chapter 7 located exactly where the standard variation of Freddy’s plushie sits atop a work desk. Inside the Garage, the band members Chica, Roxanne, Freddy and Monty plushies can be found and destroyed the exact way that they are in-game. Twisted, huh?
Secret Scenes You May Have Missed
The new mechanics in the DLC not only offer a unique insight into the animatronics’ true feelings but you can also find details pointing towards the time in between Security Breach and Ruin. This is when you need to deactivate the scissor passage to get into the next area of Chapter 5. You will see an image of Gregory with Cassie but upon deactivating the scissors, the image will alter into missing child pictures with Gregory as the child. The question is – are these images real or are these planted by The Mimic to manipulate Cassie further.
Candy Cadet, a unique part of FNAF that has a lot of fans following its separate story can be found at the end of the Ruin DLC. By stopping and listening to it through interacting until you cannot use ‘E’ anymore, you will hear of a very creepy story that Cadet describes of a lullaby being mimicked by a monster that uses it to lure the boy away from his mother. My initial thoughts were of Freddy Fazbear and the song he plays in the first FNAF game but with doing little research into this, I cannot confirm this idea.
The Mimic Mascots for Classic FNAF Lore
Ending the secrets in Ruin article with the Mimic Mascots makes sense for the secret ending of FNAF: Ruin DLC. The scooper ending shows Mimic as the main antagonist. The DLC links The Mimic to its origin story about how it killed a bunch of workers and wore costumes in the attempt to dress up and disguise itself as humans. Its killer instinct was copied by its creator Edwin Murray after he attempted to destroy it in a fit of rage due to it copying his dead son’s mannerisms and appearance. The Mimic resides in the Basement as seen in the ending. But around the Basement you can actually find secret mascot costumes scattered around which The Mimic took pieces of to create the outfit seen in the scooper ending.
