When it comes to tanking, a good shield is the number one priority, and that’s why everyone is after the legendary maximum gear score shield known as the Gilded Defense. This guide will explain how to get Gilded Defense in New World and where to find the legendary Artifact Resource you will need to make it.

How to get Gilded Defense in New World

To get Gilded Defense in New World, you will need to reach Weaponsmithing level 200 and find the Emblem of Fortitude legendary Resource. When you obtain the Emblem of Fortitude, you will see the recipe for Gilded Defense unlocked at the Forge.

  • Asmodium x14
  • Glittering Ebony x8
  • Runic Leather x3
  • Platinum Ingot x1
  • Emblem of Fortitude x1
  • Brightscale Hide x4
  • Smolderhide x2

  • 600 Gear Score
  • 751 Damage
  • 3.0% Critical Hit Chance
  • 1.3 Critical Damage Multiplier
  • 55.0 Block Stamina Damage
  • 29.7 Armor Rating – Elemental/Physical
  • 30% Blocking Stability
  • +15 Constitution
  • Accelerated Defiant Stance: Movement Speed increased by 28% for 5 seconds after triggering Defiant Stance.
  • Sure Footing: You move 20% faster while blocking.
  • Thrust Shield Ward: You take 4.7% less Thrust damage.
  • Required Level: 60

Where to find Emblem of Fortitude

The Emblem of Fortitude is a legendary Artifact Resource that drops from various level 60+ named mobs. Some known drop locations include:

  • Tzi-Wang the Immovable in Shattered Mountains
  • Dau-Shen the Unstoppable in Shattered Mountains
  • Gnasher in Ebonscale Reach
  • Elite Mobs in Lazarus Instrumentality expedition in Reekwater
  • Leviathan of the Deep in Scorched Mines in Shattered Mountains
  • Pit Lord Daehi in Shattered Mountains

Note that the general rule of thumb is most any elite mob above level 60 in a zone level 58+ has the ability to drop the Emblem of Fortitude. The Emblem of Fortitude is considered a fairly common Artifact Resource when compared to others. You can also potentially pick up the Emblem of Fortitude from the Trading Post, as it is not Bind on Pickup. Availability depends on the server and if anyone has a sell order up for it at a given time.
