Is Welt Good in Honkai: Star Rail?

Waiting patiently for that evil villain Anime pose by the glasses wearer

Choosing who to take with you into battle can always be a difficult choice, especially when there are so many options available in the game and Honkai: Star Rail is no different. With a total of 28 playable characters, although 20 of them require unlocking, the options feel unlimited due to the variety of playstyles and abilities offered as the characters are divided into core elemental categories. But determining who you would like you use in Star Rail can be made harder due to the fact that you need to unlock some of the better characters in the game. For those getting started and are unsure whether or not Welt is a viable option to use in Star Rail, this guide has the answers for you.

Who is Welt in Honkai: Star Rail?

Welt is one of the unlockable 20 characters added into Honkai: Star Rail as part of the game’s initial release in April, 2023. Whilst more characters will likely be added as the game updates, much like Genshin Impact, the route to getting these characters can be just as long of a journey as playing the game without trying to unlock anyone new for your team. With the use of the Gacha System, players will need to roll for the opportunity to obtain a new character in Star Rail. Just like in Genshin Impact. The characters are divided into Star ratings, meaning the higher the Star, the rarer the character is. For someone such as Welt, being a 5-Star character, he is harder to get from a singular roll, meaning you are far more likely to get another character instead.

Honkai: Star Rail allows players to purchase more rolls for the increased chances of obtaining the character of your choosing. Of course, this will not guarantee you unlocking Welt, but your chances are indeed increased, just like any other gambling system.

Should You Use Welt in Star Rail?

Welt is one of the best characters in Honkai: Star Rail. With his primary abilities being on dealing high damage with his slashing attacks whilst simultaneously debuffing any status effects given by enemies, Welt acts as the perfect character to have on your team as the final stand against the harsh effects of battle. He can not only deal out Imaginary Damage but with every hit that connects, the chances of inflicting slowness against the opponent’s Speed is crucial in its turn-based combat system. This base chance of 68% to reduce the enemy’s Speed by 10% when successful can shift the tide of the battle in your favor.

Being only 1 of 2 characters able to use Imaginary Element in Honkai: Star Rail, Welt will not only deal consistent damage out but also have a overwhelming Ultimate that will devastate opponents if it successfully hits. Welt will be the glue that holds the team together and that if you manage to unlock him, you should not really ever need to switch him out.
