Obtaining the Keepsake Sword in Octopath Traveler 2: Explained

The Keepsake Sword is hidden in a side quest called “Sword Hunter in the Decaying Temple”. To trigger this quest you have to go to in a town called Sai, in the southwestern part of Hinoeuma. Once there, talk to an injured Young Warrior in town that will tell you that his father’s sword got stolen.

The Keepsake Sword is in the Decaying Temple and a mini-boss called Sword Hunter has it. You would have to go there alone, without party members, and defeat him in order to retrieve the sword.

Once you have the Keepsake Sword it will be in your inventory as a quest item. Go back to Sai town and talk to the Young Warrior who is eagerly waiting for you. Give him the sword and the quest will be completed.

If you wish to have this sword as a weapon, you can steal it from the Youg Warrior by either using Throne (Steal) by day or Osvald (Mug) by night. The Keepsake Sword has a physical attack of +312, a bonus attribute of +86 to Critical, and an effect that gives low chances of reducing the target’s evasion.

How to Defeat Sword Hunter in Octopath Traveler 2

Sword Hunter is not so dangerous as he is tricky to fight solo. And that’s exactly what you need to do in this quest. If you think that your main character can’t kill him alone or that you will have to struggle a lot, proceed to complete the main storyline. After you do it, you will be able to use any of the party members in a solo capacity, and not only your character. We advise taking Hikari or Ochette.

Whatever you decide to do, there are a couple of tips that you can follow to make this fight easier for you. One of the necessary skills you need to have for this fight is the Hang Tough skill which allows you to survive high-damage nukes and remain standing with 1HP. Sword Hunter does have one attack that deals 9,999 damage so this can prove useful.

Further, you can take Aggressive Slash which is excellent for breaking lone targets, and Precise Shot which allows you to send a barrage of 5 arrows at Sword Hunter.
