Getting to the various caps in Destiny 2 means that every bonus and boost you get will give you a power level increase. Once you hit the cap, in most cases you won’t be able to get your stats any higher and even when you could, it won’t be easy. In addition to the soft cap, there are the power and pinnacle caps as well.
In the latest expansion, Destiny 2 Lightfall, these caps are updated and are actually higher than in the original game. Whether you’re an experienced player or a newbie, understanding the new soft cap and reaching it will help you immensely.

Destiny 2 Lightfall Soft Cap
The soft cap for Destiny 2 Lightfall is 1750. This means that up to this point, you will receive drops above your level. However, once you reach it those drops won’t be as powerful.
As you play and progress through the game your power level will naturally increase, but if you want to reach the 1750 cap as soon as possible, you should play the campaign on higher difficulties and complete bounties. For example, if you complete the Lightfall campaign on the legendary difficulty you will be at the soft cap automatically. But, that’s easier said than done.
You should also be aware that there are things called Season Artifacts that artificially boost your Power level and are not counted for some events, but still offer their bonuses in other game modes. Ultimately, getting to the soft cap and the power cap allows you to participate in more complex in-game events that challenge your skills even more and offer some incredible awards.
