How to Fix “Failed Fetching Crossplay Friends List” in MW2

I miss my friends.

Crossplay is a wonder. Imagine having this ability during the early days of the console wars. It would be impossible, of course, with all the Sega and Nintendo drama of the time and even the Xbox One debacle. However, crossplay is now considered a must-have, a seal of quality and caring for the player. But what happens when this fails? Well, this article gets written. Here is how to fix “Failed Fetching Crossplay Friends List” in Modern Warfare 2.

How to Fix “Failed Fetching Crossplay Friends List”

This particular error is currently affecting several Modern Warfare 2 players on February 27, 2023. As you can see above, this is an issue with some crossplay compatibility. It is called the CLARK – MONTEREY issue, and it makes finding your crossplay friends impossible. Quite annoying if you have numerous users playing from other platforms. Currently, there is no specific fix for the issue other than waiting for an official update. You can check the Infinity Ward’s official Twitter handle or even their Trello page to see if they release any patch. In the meantime, there are a couple of things you can do. Not many, but at least you can possibly circumvent this issue.

  • Close and open the game. This will possibly allow you to reconnect successfully to the network and allow you to fetch your crossplay friends list.
  • Disable any Anti-Lag software you have installed in your PC. Several users have been doing this in order to connect while experiencing this issue.
  • And, well, you can also try disabling crossplay and turning it on back again. This is, of course, a classic troubleshooting step, but you don’t know! Maybe it will work for you.

This is all speculation and basic troubleshooting. Maybe this will solve the issue, maybe this entire thing is happening on Infinity Ward’s servers. What I do know is that waiting, while it may be uncomfortable and annoying, is the best shot to fix this issue while it lasts. You can certainly do the stuff above in the meantime, of course. Good luck fixing this issue.
