In the most recent Pokémon Presents livestream, it was revealed that two new ‘mons will be available via Tera Raid. Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are the paradox forms of Suicune and Virizion, respectively, and players can now challenge them in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet! But, what are the best ways to take these new challengers down, especially for those who pay attention to type counters?
If you’d like to add Walking Wake and/or Iron Leaves to your Pokédex, read on! It’ll be incredibly important to know which of your ‘mons to bring into the Tera Raid and which to leave behind.
Best Counters for Walking Wake and Iron Leaves Tera Raid Event
It should first be noted that which raid you take on will depend on which version you purchased. Walking Wake is exclusive to Scarlet, while Iron Leaves is the Violet variant.
In addition, Walking Wake’s base type is Water/Dragon, while Iron Leaves is a Psychic type. If you’d like to play to their weaknesses, then you should prioritize Dragon and Fairy types for Walking Wake, as they will inflict double damage. Inversely, you can leave Steel, Fire, and Water types at home, as they’ll inflict between 1/2 and 1/4 damage, which can leave you feeling like you’ve got egg on your face.
In the case of Iron Leaves, however, determining the appropriate type to bring is much easier. Select a Bug, Dark, or Ghost when preparing for the battle against Iron Leaves, while passing over Fighting or Poison types. It’s also worth noting that using pokémon of these types won’t matter too much if you don’t have moves of said types readily available. So, don’t expect to do much damage using a bug type against Iron Leaves if all you’re going to use is Tackle. Be prepared with some bug-type abilities.
Best Type Pokemon to Counter Walking Wake and Iron Leaves
If you need suggestions on different ‘mons to use against Walking Wake and Iron Leaves, you’ve come to the right place!
In terms of Dragon types, you can’t go wrong with Garchomp, Koraidon or Miraidon. If you don’t have Koraidon or Miraidon yet, or if you’ve traded them for other version-exclusive pokemon, you can use Altaria or Hydreigon. For Fairy types, Scream Tail, Tinkaton, or Flutter Mane are valid options.
If you’d like to use a Bug, Dark, Ghost ‘mon against Iron Leaves, consider using Vivillon, Kricketune or Forretress (Bug); Houndoom, Grimmsnarl, or Umbreon (Dark); or Haunter, Gimmighoul, or Mimikyu (Ghost).
